Hey mate just wondering to get started on all this would i be needing a credit card? Is there any other way to earn points really? From Sydney, Australia.

Hi Samp! There's absolutely no need to have a credit card to get miles, but without flying...that's absolutely one of the best ways to quickly build your miles balance. Unfortunately, I'm not credit card points expert (try to stay away from the things), but you'll find lots of help and discussion in our credit card discussion forum: http://milepoint.com/forums/forums/general-discussion-credit-cards.362/

Hi Chris, i'm from Singapore and am new to this community. I'm just wondering if there is anyway i can earn mile points from airlines from where i am?

Hi yhlol! You can most definitely earn miles from airlines in your area. I would suggest checking out the forum for the airline you use most often. You can find a complete list of airlines here: http://milepoint.com/forums/categories/airline-programs.115/

Once you've picked an airline, I would suggest posting inside that particular forum as you'll find lots of helpful experts there!

Hi Chris. We were curious,to be able to take a well deserved cruise, how many Capital One points would we need? Thanks!!

Hi jbritt858...I'm not too sure about Capital One's program, but we have an "other credit card programs" forum here: http://milepoint.com/forums/forums/other-credit-card-programs.137/

...I would suggest starting a new thread there. The more details you can provide, the more MilePoint's awesome members will be able to help!

        Cheers,

Hi Chrislacey. I was wondering if there was a area/forum on MP where people post their upcoming trip itineraries? I have successfully met up with some awesome fellow frequent travellers using this method in "the OTHER FT forum". Maybe I'm just missing it, or maybe it could be a suggestion I can pass on to the moderators/founders? Please point me in the right direction... :) Thanks. Soltatio

Hi, wondering if more miles are needed when you book one-way as oppose to a RT award ticket? CO/UA gives a one-way award chart. DL's award chart says "based on RT travel" - hence the question. Thank you.

Tlamm...good question! My apologies for taking so long to respond as I just got back home (finally!!!)

On the CO/UA award chart, you'll notice that a one-way award is the equivalent of 1/2 as many miles as a round-trip. Simple enough. Keep in mind that your award fees also double (if you're responsible for any of them...or if you have to change the award in the future).

I don't believe Delta does one-way awards...so essentially you can book a one-way award, but you're going to be paying round-trip mileage. I'm not a Delta flyer though, and could have my facts mixed up. I would suggest posting on the Delta board here: http://milepoint.com/forums/forums/delta-skymiles.74/

I hope that helps a little!

Hi Chrislacey, thank you for the response. I posted the same question on the DL site and got the same answer. You also pointed out something I did not think of - the fees associated with booking award flights. Again, thank you. You have been very helpful :).

      Hey Chris thanks
After reading the link about Deltas fare classes I think I am now more confused.
When does it matter what fare class you get ? When booking an award trip ?
Here is a specific question. Every year I can get a free companion fare when I renew my American Express card. Next time I want to pay for my fare and then use miles to upgrade both of us to Bus Class. Is this
      posssible ?

Sorry to add confusion! Fare class comes in to play on Delta when we're talking about Medallion automatic domestic upgrades. Beyond that, fare class also plays a part in how many miles are earned for a particular trip. When you're looking at class of service (first/business/coach) ... it doesn't really matter like you said.

I don't have experience with the AMEX card companion fare, but I'm guessing there are certain restrictions. If it books into an eligible fare class...then I'm assuming you can use miles to upgrade. Unfortunately (as of right now) I'm a United flyer...so I'm not completely familiar with Delta.

Can you please to me what the different Class of seats mean,ex class J,Y,etc. Or if there is an explanation somewhere post a link. FYI, I only try to fly Delta because I live in Ga.
      1. chrislacey
        chrislacey
Certainly! In general, Y = Economy/Coach. C or J = Business. F = First. Within each class of service, there are many different fare classes. Actual fare classes vary depending on carrier, but a lot of times they are similar across carriers. You can find a list of the Delta fare classes here: http://www.cwsi.net/delta.htm

...Just remember that fare classes can and do change...and I can't guarantee that the chart is up-to-date. It'll give you a good idea though :)
