It IS fairly pricey and very gimmicky. I'd only buy it for the display bottle. Nothing memorable going on there.

Only one other mention of Tito's Handmade thus far? That stuff makes Goose taste like Absolut in comparison.

Hoe does it compare price wise?

I picked up a bottle of Tito's for $17.99 at a local store; it's usually $19.99, was on sale for all of February. The Ketel display right next to it was at $25.99. For reference, we're talking about Philly metro. Didn't check the Goose price on that trip because I was specifically looking for Tito's. I'm getting married Memorial Day weekend, and my best man is a vodka-preferring Polish gentleman like me who had not tried Tito's. Two words: groomsman gift.

Tito is strongly of the belief that if he can make the best possible liquor at the lowest cost, he will keep the sales coming. The bottle is no-frills with labeling and nothing else.

Besides which, if anyone wants to support an American entrepreneur as opposed to the large multinational conglomerates, Tito's is the way to go. It's made and bottled in Austin.

Nice, and it looks like it's only a couple of buck more than Smirnoff!

And of a higher quality by a country mile. You won't regret the switch coming from Smirnoff.

I really like Hanger One Vodka. It is distilled from Grapes. It comes in Keffir lime flavor and mandarin orange as well as the plain distilled vodka.

Another good one is Effen. They make a plain distilled and black currant flavor.

I'm a huge fan of potato vodkas. They just taste smoother to me. My favorite is Chopin, but it's pricey and not a lot of places carry it. Lately I've discovered another potato vodka, Lukosova, in my local liquor store. A mere $14/bottle!

If I'm out and neither of those is available, I'll probably do Grey Goose.

    Okay, I'm a little confused.

I thought vodka, by definition, was distilled from potatoes. How can a vodka be distilled from grapes? And, if it can, what else is vodka made from?

Someone -- educate me please! :)

How do you feel about lighter fluid?

I prefer paint thinner. It has more of a fruity bouquet, although it has less of a punch than a good homebrew grappa.

Mrs Chimpy is a big fan of Grey Goose, but on our last trip we brought back a bottle of Absolute Watkins as well. She loved it.

Vodka can be made from lots of things. Most vodka these days is made from grain. People think all vodka is made from potatoes because it's part of "picking potatoes in Russia in the winter to make vodka" folklore.

I think that the main attraction is the bottle.Back in my hippie days in the 1960's I would have turned down the lights and placed a candle in it after emptying the bottle.

I was a straight Ketel One girl until a couple of years ago.

At home, my vodka of choice is now Tito's. When I'm out, I also like Effen and Hangar One - they have some nice infusion flavors which I like because I drink vodka/sodas when I'm sipping... and the infusion makes it almost like a spritzer.

When I'm not sipping, I'm drinking straight up slightly dirty martinis... and the purer the vodka, the smoother they go....

This is my favorite mass produced vodka, Russian Standard Platinum. There are better ones IMHO but not mass produced.
As for the Gargoyle/Sabore polemics we must conceded that both of these people are otherwise admirable persons, but neither of them knows much about vodka!
