Yes it was a great workout and interesting people watching. There are some really happy and some really upset people in airports. I wish I had taken pics of the clubs because they varied in design. I haven't talked to anyone but this is consistent with my initial email that I received describing it as a May-June promotion: boardingarea.com/blogs/onemileatatime/2011/05/02/earn-300-membership-rewards-points-for-using-your-american-express-platinum-card-to-access-a-delta-skyclub/
Today's the last day (at least per that email message). If anyone has an evening flight, or tomorrow morning, you should ask the SC for extras. I am going to write to Delta to suggest they continue the program - saying it really influenced my willingness to visit the SC.
Has anyone visited the Sky Club today? Did you happen to have received a certificate? I know the e-mail originally said through June, but was curious if it was extended.
Asked at one of the DTW Sky Clubs yesterday and they said that they it ended in June. On a side note picked up another 30 certificates on June 28th.
I depart dca tomorrow and will clean them out. I will see if I can get the little holder, too, tomorrow.
I wonder whether these things are being sold on ebay like places. I'm curious what the going price is.
So here is an idea - can we all post what locations still have them and the OP that started the thread update where we had success and still may have coupons?
Ahh...the oldest question on these boards, what is the value of a mile? Let's look to some market data points to begin. There are a surprising number of factors at play. (1) Many carriers sell miles for a little above $0.025 per mile, iirc. (I've never bought.) I've always thought those were overpriced at their offered level. (2) I have, however, had redemptions (even this year) with valuations over $0.09 per mile (http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/great-redemption-value-cpm-on-jfk-sfo.6200/). I've also had redemptions in the $0.025 range this year (American AAnyTime awards in 3-cabin F JFK-LAX-KOA (the second segment being 2-cabin F)). On average, I probably get about $0.045 - $0.05 per mile valuation for them when redeeming. (Maybe my 'they're overpriced' reaction was misplaced.) (3) Membership rewards points should be worth more than DL miles, simply because of their flexibility (can go to any alliance). Also, 300 MR points are worth at present 450 DL points right now with the transfer bonus. So, if we assume DL miles are the least valuable, you'd still have to apply the price per mile to the 450 figure to determine the valuation if converted to DL. Same 1.5x factor if you're thinking in BA terms, as they have a bonus live at present, too. BA has better availability at low miles award levels...but other-than-trivial co-pays. What's that worth? (4) If you sent them to AC, and booked before July 15, you could get one of those mini-RTW F tickets for 120,000 miles. That could easily be a $0.15 per mile valuation, if not more. But, you'd need a lot of other miles to redeem...not just a few Amex certificates. The amounts involved, however, are generally small (though see my subsequent post about my total capture form this program) - so many of the value figures I'm citing require other miles beyond what you could reasonably gather from this promotion. I offered $1.50 for one earlier in this thread (probably a violation of the T&C), but sadly the code had been used (the poster graciously did not charge me). Because it is such a small amount of miles for any given certificate, the value seems somehow diminished to me. I have so many miles, and these are so small, I don't think I'd have a credible bid for more. But, since I'm not hungry for cash, selling below my average redemption rate also doesn't make sense. If I were to make a market, which I AM NOT doing, I think I'm "$1 bid, offer at $22.50" per voucher. Not an aggressive market-maker, that's for sure. Others?
I didn't take the holder, and left 1 voucher behind. Total capture was 32 this time. Including the 38 from my last visit to DCA, and others I've picked up, I collected 98 vouchers in total. That's 29,400 MR points. I couldn't find some of my original points posting, and called Amex to complain - so they posted them manually a second time - but I subsequently found the original ones buried in a post dated the prior month. That added another 1,800 of 'clerical error' miles. So, 31,200 miles in total. Seems I should transfer them to DL or BA, just on principle, to get the 50% kicker. Assuming I do, that's 46,800 miles in total. If I transfer to DL as part of a bigger transfer, 20% will come as MQMs, too! Not bad for visiting the Crown Room, er, or Sky Club.
Totally should have taken the holder and taken a photo with with all the certs you got. I ended up with around 50 certs. Could have done better. But I'm happy with what I got.
I probably could have gotten the holder....but my hope is they'll re-load for others. I probably won't be back in DCA any time soon....but happy to leave some for others. If you transfer to BA or DL, you're still around 22,500.
I ended up with six NYBanker apparently missed at the DCA SkyClub (I flew yesterday), intended for friends on Milepoint as I don't have a MR AmEx.
I left only 1. If there were 6 when you arrived, that means there was some greater stash in reserve, as they had to have replenished. Hmmmm....
Regular Amex Plat. However, the vouchers say you must be enrolled in the US membership rewards program. Presumably a Swedish card wouldn't be in that program. This program was advertised to end 30 June. There may be a few clubs still offering the vouchers, in general, the party is over.
I've mailed this letter in. I encourage others to do the same. (street) (city/state/zip) (date) Delta Air Lines Post Office Box 20980 Atlanta, Georgia 30320-2980 Re: Sky Club Membership Rewards Bonus Program Ladies and Gentlemen: I draw your attention to the recent incentive program that Delta Air Lines ran which offered 300 bonus Membership Rewards points for each American Express Platinum cardmember that visited the Sky Club. What a wonderful promotion this was. I really appreciate Delta working creatively with American Express to develop such a valuable incentive for your mutual customers. Indeed, while normally if I had only 20 or so minutes in spare time at an airport, I normally might not visit the Sky Club. Thanks to this promotion, I definitely visited the Sky Club at least half a dozen additional times than I otherwise would have. Each time I visit the Sky Club, I am reminded what a pleasant space your clubs can be. These great experiences help influence my decision to pick Delta for future air travel, too! I presume American Express pays a fee to Delta Air Lines each time a Platinum cardmember visits the Sky Club, this is truly a win-win-win proposition for everyone involved (Delta, American Express and your mutual customers). As a Medallion frequent flyer continuously since the late 1990s and a current Platinum Medallion flyer (SkyMiles # ____), I appreciate Delta’s innovative products and offerings, especially the numerous enhancements made to the Sky Miles program over the past few years. I encourage Delta to consider renewing this Membership Rewards Sky Club bonus program and making it a permanent benefit for American Express Sky Club visitors. It will certainly induce me to travel more on Delta and to use my American Express Platinum Card to visit the Sky Club much more often. Very truly yours, NYBanker
You do know that you have probably doomed this promotion. DL tends to do just the opposite of what it customers want.
