The fob batteries do last a while, but you don't know how long since it was last changed... I have an 07 G35 that I purchased new and I've changed them maybe 3 times since I got the car. Used to have an EX35 and I think I changed them even less. Indeed, but I remember renting an Altima recently and it looks like someone had super-glued the metal key in place or something, because it wouldn't come loose. Starting the car shouldn't be a problem either though, because there should be a port somewhere near the left side of the steering wheel where you can insert the whole keyfob to start the car, even if the key battery is dead.
That is if you can even get in the car and how do you know all these tricks if someone doesn't tell you first and how many customer service agents do more than point you to the car -- or even the Emerald Aisle when you're using an airport for the first time. DTWBOB
Agreed as well. I know some people that have no idea how to start a car without a key, and I know that when I rent I'm never told about any of this. I don't know if it has to do with my status or the fact that they just don't care, but I agree that if I wasn't aware of all this I would have had to fumble around until I figured things out. Either that or go back to the desk and ask.
I don't think it's an issue as to whether they care or not, usually they don't know you don't know and are too busy to even notice. BTW, I prefer GM cars and National usually has a good Emerald Aisle selection. DTWBOB
Maybe... but but like you said it's all about customer service. They know to ask you whether you want insurance or fuel service, and in some places they even ask if you need directions or a map. I'm sure they could see what kind of car you have and ask if you need any assistance with the keyless setup. Then again nowadays rental car companies have so many different cars that maybe the guy at the counter doesn't know. Not to mention that adopting this whole "pick your poison" thing means they might not know whether you have a keyless car or not.
I friend of mine borrowed a infiniti, drove from NY into NJ then realized he didn't have the key. so he left the car running untill someone turned it off!! It cost him $200 to get someone to bring to him. So don't think it shuts off it must have been something else. I was in a infiniti the other day and every time i left the car and it was running it would just beep/
I have a G35 I bought in 07 and an FX that I got a couple of months ago when I traded an EX (we're an Infiniti family, obviously ). The car never shuts off on its own, even when the key is removed from the car. You get a few beeps and a notice on the dash that says "no key" but the car remains running -- presumably until it runs out of gas.
