MSNBC: Amtrak plans 37-minute train from NY to Philly

Is Amtrak finally trying to catch up to the rest of the world with respect to high speed rail travel??
IME here in the UK, train travel can make life very easy - no security, relaxing, get up/move around, etc.

I think NE corridor is one of the few places in the US where intercity high-speed rail travel makes sense. Some parts of CA might work, too. Long distances, lower population density, and lack of local public transportation options make high-speed rail far less attractive for the rest of the country.

I'm sure they could go through $151 billion faster, if need be.
Then people may forget there was supposed to be a train at the end of it. :D

this will become reality when gas becomes $500/gallon. Good plan actually.
