Autoslash has always been on par with Hotwire and carrentals.com the 3 or 4 times I checked over the past two months. Since this was my first time using the site I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting a bad deal. Once I rent the car I'll know the final outcome. But I've been satified so far in that it has saved me alot of time chasing car rates. I've also tested autoslash against some of the so-called deals that the airlines market and autoslash has beaten those handily.

Because nickfromct knows that with AutoSlash your rate keeps on dropping. If he had booked at another site, the rate he booked at is the rate he'd pay at the rental counter. On the other hand, with AutoSlash, your rate can be continually reduced right up until the day before you pick up the car. The initial rate is just a starting point.

Additionally, at a site like Hotwire, nickfromct would have had to pay in full and give up any hope of a refund if his plans change or he has to cancel. Contrast that will AutoSlash which is 100% free and let's you change or cancel at any time without penalty.

    That's good to know!
    Just to reconfirm via example:
So if my priceline bid ended up lower than an autoslash price, I can cancel at anytime without penalty? :)

yep no problem Ive done it many times as the rate I was able to get with another company was cheaper then what AS offered me, so the day before my rental I cx ASs res. Did it last week where my Alamo rate was $16 cheaper then what AS had found for me with Dollar

Just returned to the autoslash web site to setup a few rentals and noticed the disclaimer that Hertz and associate companies have backed out. All thats left are some of the smaller players.

This unfortunately eliminates the usefulness of this web site for me. Whats left is like Payless, Foxx, and SIXT.

That TOTALLY stinks! Your right...this eliminates the usefulness and uniqueness of the sire:-(

I agree this does stink. I saved $200 in March on an SUV in Denver. I was looking forward to more effortless savings.

Apologies for the inconvenience. We are obviously very disappointed with the recent action taken by Hertz and Dollar-Thrifty. You can read more about it on our site here.

While the rental companies are no longer committed to working with AutoSlash, AutoSlash is committed to doing right by it's customers. We understand that in its current form, the service is of limited use to most folks. We're working on a new improved service that we hope will be even more useful to people that the much loved original site. Stay tuned...

There's no way to automate the book process anyways? Even if the company doesn't collaborate? I would think that a script could still do dummy bookings off the web site.

I can assure you that we are looking at this from a number of angles. Our goal is to come up with something that is very useful to the general consumer, but also stands the test of time. Solving the technical issues is only one consideration. If it was a purely technical issue, we'd already have a new service rolled out by now--trust us. :)

Although I didnt save that much on those rentals I kept with AS (where they had a better rate then I was able to find) its bad anytime that something like this happens.

But even with my own reses I made and not via AS, the car companys didnt take kindly to seeing how I either kept modifying my original res or CXed it and made a new one for same exact time period but for less $$. Multiply that by the # of reses AS must CX and rebook everyday and I see how some of these companys wont want to work with them.Besides ending up with less $$$ it does play around with their inventory

Maybe AS simply has to ask them whats the difference if we post all the codes that reduces the rates or if we do the bookings, either way you will end up with the lower rate being booked. Although most people probably wont keep checking back so often so the companys will hope they will end up with reses for higher $$ amounts

this game just isnt what it used to be :-(

Wow, this is indeed a sad development. What is the situation with already booked/reserved rentals? I have about four that are technically still on the books

Web site says they will still be honored... but I'm assuming this means that they are no longer being checked for the lowest price? If so, might have been a nice idea to email people with existing reservations. If I hadn't gone to book a new reservation I would have assumed the others were still being updated.

Existing reservations continue to be tracked for price drops, and we'll be in touch with any customers via email if we find a lower rate.

Thanks thats good to know. I have a few reservations in the hopper with Auto slash. I just completed my first rental through AS and enjoyed not having to search multiple sites with multiple discount codes. Still got a price or par with the best price I saw on hotwire.
  12. mtlfire Silver Member

Thanks. I'll leave the current reservations then. Hope you work things out with Hertz as it was a hassle free way to keep track of lower prices.

This is very disappointing indeed. Before A/S, I *never* used Dollar-Thrifty; it was only because of the rates you found for me that led me to book with them - on several occasions, I might add! If history is any indication, I guess I won't be booking with them again in the future.

Also, fwiw, I followed the link above to read more. When I tried to add my email address to be advised of updates, it threw me over to your homepage before I could add my contact info (I'm using my iPad and the MP app).

Same here on never using Dollar until AS.

Granted, it wasn't exactly the best experience, speed-wise, but it worked out.

Made me realize that there's a dollar value to being able to use my Avis Preferred.

Well, I had my first booking with AutoSlash this past week. I needed a rental for 4.5 days. All the major rentals were high because it was close to the booking.

Found an Economy with AS for $100. Decent price. After one hour, I received a note saying they found a 5% discount. Okay, now $95. Next Day that had dropped to $85. WooHoo 15%savings! Upon picking up the car (EZ Rent 2011 Nissan Sentra, 7000miles on the clock) price was $76.15 all in. 25% discount after booking at what I thought was a great price.

Will make AS my first stop next time.

Had my first autoslash reservation a few weekends ago -- as Hertz has dropped out, this might be a pointless question, but does using Autoslash prevent you from getting either Hertz gold or air miles? I noticed on the receipt that although it recognized my Hertz number and status, it doesn't seem to have credited points to either program?
  14. AutoSlash Z Representative

Nope--unlike hotels, rental cars don't care where you book your car to be eligible for any rewards (except for prepaid Priceline/Hotwire rentals).

Since there isn't a way to specify parameters like mileage preferences through the travel agency GDS systems we book through, your rewards will use whatever your default settings in your frequent traveler profile are. If your profile is set to #1 Club rewards points, then you should get those. (We've had no problem collecting our own #1 Club rewards booking through the site.)

If you don't receive the points, a missing points request to Hertz should do the trick. There's no restriction on earning them.

Thanks. Will give that a try. On the bill, no frequent flyer info is listed like it normally does. My profile is set to credit to Aeroplan.
