And that is most certainly your prerogative. It is a personal choice, very much up to the individual poster.

I'm not sure that "Facebook" and "privacy" even belong in the same sentence.

They do....as long as "annihilate" is in there.

One might as well just upload all their credit card data and social security information :)

    Nevermind :p

This is really interesting to me. Almost everyone I know, family members (even the ones who are as old as I), business colleagues, neighbors, old classmates, fellow parishioners, and social friends, are all on Facebook, complete with pictures. The only exception to Facebook in our family is our daughter, who has thousands of pictures on the internet which can easily be found by googling either her first, or her last name. As a matter of fact, she is the only person whom I actually know who can be found simply by googling her first name, but that's another story.

What are the specific concerns you all feel about posting a picture? I know that it is a personal issue, and honestly none of my business, but I am just very curious about this and am truly seeking enlightement.

I gotta be honest, I'm more likely to trust fellow travelers than my friends and family on FB
I just haven't really made it around to adding some sort of photo (which will be totally unrelated to some of the other active threads around here!).

You can borrow one from the Avatar Giveaway thread to tide you over till you find something more personally meaningful.

Nice, I hadn't seen that. Just grabbed one until I get around to whatever else I do.

Good, I moved that one to the "holding pen". Let me know if you stop using it and I'll shift it back to the active category. thumbs-up.gif

Regarding the posting my photo, it's not my fellow travelers that I am concerned about... it's all of the other people who have access to this BB that have me concerned. As was discussed in a previous thread, I am a woman who travels alone and I am easily recognizable. Therefore, it is in my best interest to remain anonymous. I don't understand why this has become such an issue.

I think your avatar doesn't have to be a picture of yourself to establish an "identity" that people can connect with. A picture that shows something about yourself or your personality is just as good as far as I'm concerned.
< Needless to say I am from the frozen north, which at this time is still frozen and will probably remain so until late April. Spring flowers here come in June. :(

I couldn't agree more. Certainly it is one's prerogative to not want to become friends with others who don't share a photo of themselves but suggesting that it is a requirement to gain acceptance or even to improve social relationships in a community is hogwash. I chose to use a photo of myself because, well, it is an awesome picture. Plus I'm not particularly shy. But I became great friends with many people online that I'd never seen a photo of in years of interactions. Really an overblown discussion IMO.

My avatar is a photo of me, but when I was younger and better looking.

I don't mean to push anyone in that direction, everyone has different reasons for portraying, or not, something about themselves. I think most of us are pretty respectful of that and mostly having fun.

In particular, I'm curious if my friends that peruse this BB will take note of the jab at them

I just picked out a picture of a friend of mine, so people would think that they are looking at the person who is posting. :D His name is Miles and he smiles a lot. My name is

BTW, I am also from the frozen north and, right now, there is a winter storm advisory and it is snowing really hard!!:(

Ah ha... so you are from the frozen north in the western half the country. I hear you guys are getting slammed. Hope you ski, because I hear it's been epic out there this year... the one year we weren't able to go west. :(

Yeah, I live in Alberta and this has been the worst winter that I can ever remember. Unfortunately, due to a couple of bad (fairly recent) injuries, I cannot ski anymore so the snow has not been much fun, at all. You definitely missed the best skiing weather of the century! ;)

Had a instructor/consultant in from Medicine Hat today and she was telling us about it. Says the kids just south of her haven't had a full week of school since before Christmas. Said she usually makes her 4 kids each shovel once a year just so they know how... this year all 4 each have shoveled once a day and they had to buy a tractor.

My 16 year old snowboarding son will never forgive us for not going west this year. He's in his last year of HS though, so not the best time to be away from school for a week. Usually we meet up with DSS & DIL out there, but DIL expecting this year, so she couldn't ski, and DSS was in the middle of a job transition. Just bad timing all around, but of course the epic year for the west... just the way it goes. :(

I am also in Southern AB and the amount of snow you describe is no exaggeration. It's been the year from *&%#!!

Well, who knows, perhaps next winter will be just as bad (or good! ;)) for snow and you can make a trip out for some snowboarding/skiing! Right now, I just want to think about summer and warm weather!! :)
