A friend took me there when I was visiting, and oh my goodness that was a tasty burger. I had the Viagra burger- I don't recall what all was on it but I think it included blue cheese and bacon. Delicious!

Well bacon will make me get up out of bed. So i see that being appropriate.

Pluses and minuses about Bartley's - it used to be run by some of
the most reactionary folks in Cambridge; don't know about now.
The burgers, though, are quite good, and I have taken FTMMers
there when they've visited the Boston area.

I just enjoyed an exceptional green chile cheeseburger from Manny's Buckhorn Tavern featured on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. GQ''s #7 burger. I have had The Owl's and The Cherry Cricket ( both mentioned up thread), but the Buckhorn was better.

So, this week I went on a bit of a burger spree... after the delicious Michelle Obama at Mr. Bartley's, I went to Plan B Burgers in West Hartford, CT. This place is awesome-- it's called Plan B because not only do they have burgers (more on that in a sec), but dozens of beers, and the largest selection of bourbons in CT! I had all three when there for lunch. :D

I had the most amazing burger there-- the PB&J burger special. It was a beef burger (all their beef is organic and humane raised, never frozen, made to order), american cheese, peanut butter, and bacon jam on a pretzel bun. OK, so I know what you're thinking-- it's sounds gross, but all of the flavors really worked, making this one of the best burgers I have had in some time. It was just a thin layer of PB, enough to get that nutty saltiness, and it sort of melted into the burger, and the beef and PB flavors melded. Combined with the smoky sweetness of the bacon jam and the cheese, really, really delicious.

    Photographic proof below:

They have a dizzying array of fries, and I highly recommend the tater tots. If you are in the Hartford area, do yourself a favor and head to Plan B!

And the wife and I just came back from the newly-opened Jake's Wayback Burgers here in our neighborhood in Stamford. Jake's is a chainlet, primarily in the Mid-Atlantic/Midwest area. They sell burgers in the Shake Shack/Five Guys vein, and they were quite tasty. The buns here are delicious, and the meat was pretty flavorful. I just had a plain burger. The fries and the homemade potato chips were also stellar. It looked like they made good shakes as well, but I didn't get one. I think this place falls below Shake Shack but above Five Guys for me. I think Station Eats is slightly above all of these three for me. I'll be back because it's so convenient to wear I live.

OK, so I think I'm going to lay off the burgers for a little while now!;)

Usually when I am flying out of LAX I go to In-N-Out (like many others) but I was recently traveling with my wife who vetoed it. So instead we ate burgers at the bar at Rustic Canyon in Santa Monica. The burgers are not cheap: $18 for the burger plus $4 for bacon and $3 for a fried egg. But it was one of the best burgers I have ever had.

I do quite like Bartley's, but...

For my money, the best burger in Cambridge is the Green Street Grille in Central Square. A great diner-style double cheeseburger. I also whole-heartedly recommend the chicken wings.

As for my best burger recently... I made some at home the other day. Used the sous vide prep I highlighted earlier, which is still tops in my opinion. For this burger, though, I decided to kick the umami up a notch. I spread some anchovy relish from Fortnum & Mason onto the bun. Out of this world. The perfect complement of salty and savory and umami. Highly recommended on any burger.

I tried Jake's Wayback in Brooklyn about a year ago. From what I remember, I wasn't a huge fan of it. I found it to be a step above a regular fast food place. The best thing about Five Guys to me is the free peanuts. I am not a fan of the burgers. Shake Shack is my favorite out of the fresh, fast food style burgers.

Have you tried Schnippers? Another one that I do not care for.

I hope you are going to be ready to eat burgers in about a month from now!

So, we had our mini-Do here in NYC yesterday, and had the black label burger at Minetta Tavern. I thought it was excellent, but probably not the best burger I've ever had. Definitely worth checking out, if you are a burger fan, though. Here's a pic; that's caramelized onion 'jam' on top. The meetup was really fun, by the way-- always great to meet other MPers! minetta01.jpg

Had a really good burger at Holeman and Finch in Atlanta. I've never thought of Atlanta as a food destination (and I still don't) but they've got some decent restaurants these days.

Warning: They've got a whole schtick with the burgers where you have to pre-order, and they only make 24, etc. But it really was one of the better burgers I've had.

I've seen H&F featured on TV, and they're definitely on my burger list, although I almost never go to Atlanta anymore. Also, that ordering system seems annoying, but I'm glad you were able to snag one!

Burger DO was awesome. Minetta's was a very juicy and tasty burger so I highly recommend it. Best burger I have had in NYC was at DuMont which was heavenly. Shake Shack is my favorite chain here in the city. Noy a fan of Jackson Hole at all, its big which I like but it is miserably dry...not cool at all. Best burger I had in Miami was at the now closed Kingdom which had a 24oz burger which was part of the Doomsday Challenge. Best in LA goes to Pie n Burger although I always go to In N Out when I am there. BUT THE BEST BUGER IN AMERICA goes to Lunchbox Laboratory in Seattle. Seriously surprised that no one from Seattle mentioned it as I think it kicks Red Knit's culito. Their Burger of the Gods...is quite frankly...a burger fit for a God...12 oz, Gorganzola Cheese, Carmalized Onions and your choice of sauces.

Looks like fun! Next time I'm on the east coast, we should try to set one up (or do one out here). What adult beverages accompanied that nice looking hunk of meat?

The NYC DO was a great time. The black label was awesome but not my favorite. My favorite is still DuMont. After going multiple times it has never disappointed!

BTW- I followed up the DO with a double burger at Shake Shack in Brooklyn last night!

Charles- let's figure out the next DO soon. I have a few ideas.
