Thanks for the review and photos. The wife and I are going to IST in October. Looking forward to seeing these places. Any tips from your experiences would be great too.

The Grand Bazaar to me was a bit over rated. after a few minutes inside, you'll see a pattern emerge of the shops being basically the same. We actually enjoyed walking the streets around the grand bazaar far more than we enjoyed the inside of the bazaar. Where are you staying in IST?

Did you get a visa before you left or did you get one of those "sticker" visas once you landed?

If you have a chance to take a boat ride down the bosphorus to the princess islands, it is well worth it. The islands are beautiful and cars are not allowed, so you can take carriage rides around to sightsee and the restaurants are great. We had some of the best fish we have ever eaten while there. There is a restaurant in Istanbul right in the middle of the bosphorus called the Suada Club. It is a great place to eat at night and see the lights of the city and the lights of the bridge. Boats will take you there in about four minutes. Don't miss the Hagia Sophia across from the Blue Mosque. If you want to see the whirling dervish, don't go to a restaurant that advertises a show. We were very disappointed and wished that we had gone to an actual whirling dervish group show not affiliated with a restaurant.
