Can I Visit a KLM Lounge as a Gold Medallion, without proof of status?

If one finds L52 amazing, I wonder how they would find the LHR T4 Skyteam Lounge?

I wonder if this lounge (LHR) is going to live up to the hype people keep giving it once I finally get ElitePlus. Only 1248MQM (and a change to March) to go. Even fewer miles once I figure out how many MQM my AZ/XM flights LHR-LIN-LHR post as. Even if the LHR SkyTeam lounge isn't heaven on earth, it will be markedly better than waiting in the dump known as the seats by gates in T4, however.

Not sure how long it's going to take for my GM credentials to reach me. Anyone have any thoughts on getting into the LHR lounge as ElitePlus without a card?

Given the fact they have actual food, it will be a change for you.

Never mind the different levels :)

OK, it's not Dinseyland or something, but compared to L52 in AMS? Big difference at least to me.

However, these lounges are small and not nearly as nice as the KLM lounges at AMS.

For the record, there are such lounges in the schengen and nonschengen areas at AMS, all on the upper level (one floor above departures and duty free shops).

  1. You are quite correct; I had intended to point them out as alternatives in the event that Mike1625 was not able to access lounge 52.

I qualified for Platinum on the way to Europe in Nov., and had occasion to use a KLM lounge in AMS on the way home, due to a late / misconnected flight. I went to the desk, showed them my Gold card and BP (coach) and told her I'd qualified for Platinum on the outbound. After a few seconds typing away, she handed my docs back to me and let me into the lounge. The agent at the rebooking desk did ask "How did you get in here?" when I handed over my docs, but I explained the same situation, and again after a few seconds of typing, she proceeded to help me with my rebooking.

That said, there is PLENTY to do in AMS if they won't let you in. There's an extension of one of the museums (Rijksmuseum I think), tons of shopping, viewing platform to watch the planes, etc.

Since ElitePlus can bring a guest, it's interesting that they'd even ask how you got into the lounge. I would have thought they'd see enough no/lower status passengers through as guests that the rebooking agent wouldn't care how you got in.

There were quite a few of us in line due to the weather that had caused a lot of cancellations, so maybe she was being extra picky that day. I handed her my gold card as I sat down, so that may also have set off her radar.

There's also a casino in the airport, a business center, lots of food choices, Belgium chocolates, play areas for kids, nap areas, a chapel, a collection of history of KLM and AMS photos, smoking areas (for tobacco), and a transit hotel which IIRC rents rooms by the hour. Have fun!

Thanks to everyone for all the great ideas and thoughts. I reached out to Delta via email, and got a response that showed they value me and made a real effort on my behalf. I think I have a good chance to get in the lounges, but if not, I know I can keep myself occupied.

How successful were you in accessing the European lounges?

Got into CPH, no problem at all. It was nice, and glad I got in there. Nice time relaxing for the flight to AMS.

I never tried at AMS, by the time I cleared passport control and security I really didn't have much time. Ended up visiting 4 lounges on the trip, Skyclubs in TPA, JFK (gate 12) and ATL (T6) and the shared lounge in CPH.

Thanks again for all the advice offered before the trip, I had a great time.

You did well, although it's too bad that you didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful KLM lounges in AMS.

That "shared lounge" in CPH is not operated by any SkyTeam airline -- not that it mattered if flying the likes of AF-KL, Alitalia, CSA and Aeroflot as a DL SkyTeam ElitePlus in coach (since they were willing to provide lounge access), but it did matter if flying DL in coach as a SkyTeam ElitePlus because DL used to refuse to provide lounge access at CPH to DL economy class customers (even as the other SkyTeam airlines there had no problem doing so). Fortunately this situation has changed for the better.

Anyone have experience lately with the KLM dragons?

I'm a Delta Platinum, flying on a KLM itinerary (booked with KLM). I don't have any Platinum credentials and have requested a replacement card that won't arrive in time for my trip.

Any chance of getting in to the AMS lounge? DL PM number is printed on my KLM boarding pass with the codes "oths, pdst".

Will you have any DL boarding passes that identify you as PM and SkyTeam elite plus? I think your chances as PM are better than for a GM or DM in the same situation in that KLM are very accustomed to Platinums having lounge access, from the days of the JV with PMNW. Try to take a printout of your account summary page showing status and ask nicely but confidently.

Thanks, MSPeconomist! I will only have KLM boarding passes, which I hope will indicate the SkyTeam elite plus status. I could try checking in and getting the boarding pass on Delta stock, but I've printed out my email for my May statement showing my Platinum status...

If you can, you should also print out the account summary page on delta.dumb that shows not only your status but also how much you've flown this year, etc. The way it's printed might look more convincing than email.

Btw, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I have a flight from JFK-mad on Friday on DL. Would you recommend terminal 4 KLM oasis lounge landslide lounge- this flight usually leaves out of terminal 4- B 22, or terminal 3 sky clubs and take the free shuttle. Which one would take less time, terminal 4 security or shuttle from terminal 3-4? Thanks a lot guys!

In my experience, everyone outside the US wants the plastic card. You would think the BP would be sufficient, but.....I've had this issue with AA, BA and AZ.

ST lounge at LHR T4 is fine with just my BP, at least when flying DL. I have been asked to recite my SkyMiles number, but card seems optional there.
