    No, not a joke
Just got confirmation from the DM desk.
No transferrable vouchers, not more than one per purchase.

EDITED: VOUCHERS ISSUED BEFORE DEC/15 will go under the old rules (of up to three vouchers per purchase), that's the note from a supervisor at DM desk. Their claim is that they've received the note about this change only 2 hours ago.

    What other 'enhancements' are comming?

(Note: first posted on FT, give them credit for it...)

I guess I will start taking miles instead of vouchers when offered the option.

I can't complain about DL too much, in my experience as a spoor student they have given me the best experience flying relative to the other US carriers. So its not great but just the best of the worse.

It is going to be on the website tomorrow, or maybe even later today. Sadly, it is already all over the aviation websites news

please correct me... Lets say I have a $25 voucher, a $50 voucher and a $225 voucher. If I am buying a fare that is $275 - I will not be able to combine the $225 and $50 vouchers? also - what if the fare is $175? previously, I'd be able to apply the $225 voucher and get the difference (i.e. $50) back on my account.

I love delta - but I hate how they've been carving away at medallion (especially silver) medallions' benefits.

Talked to PLAT line and I was told that too many are being stolen. That is the reason. The phone rep did not know. Says the went to the top. Does not get it. Says they may change if we email and complain about it. May change it? Really? [IMG] - blogged about it too!

I was not under the impression you would not get the difference back. Just that you would not be able to pass them along to someone else. Am I incorrect?

Just got off the phone as well with the Plat line, you will get any balance left back. So if you use a 300 dollar voucher for a 250 flight you get 50 back. The rep told me that someone had gone in and sorted out the numerical system used by DL and as such, using a program were able to generate vouchers using the system on the website even though they were not issued. Surprised this has not been a problem before, so now each voucher that is generated by the system has to have a skymiles number associated with it. Dont know what that means for people who are issued them without a number. He also indicated (and this was a Chisholm rep--I trust them) that this was only temporary.

no kidding... how is it possible to steal a voucher without the SkyMiles number and a PIN or redemption code?

or shouldn't this just be a (reasonable & temporary) restriction for vouchers that don't have SkyMiles accounts associated with them?

I am just thinking of a time when an engine blew up from ATL-LHR and we had to land at JFK for a ac swap. During that time FAs handed out vouchers to everyone while we were waiting. Our skymiles accounts were not linked to those.

maybe skymiles account holders were the offenders?

they don't give out vouchers because they didn't do anything wrong. now they're going to make it more difficult to utilize them?

Hopefully it will be changed back. I doubt many people will VDB now, knowing they can't transfer the vouchers..... Maybe they will start issuing checks for VDB?

Just like fuel surcharges were only going to be temporary.

youre right, temporary is a subjective term!

Ah, yes, the "drip-drip" of these enhancements seems to be coming faster and faster now.

This makes sense from Jeff's perspective. Most people are locked into their Medallion levels for the upcoming year and it's time to make those rescissions. Bite them hard, and do it now.

And. Do you really think this is the end of these "enhancements"? If so, then not only is there a wonderful high-functionality bridge to be purchased on the 100 year bond plan, but the SM program can only be described as.... you all know what.

The next round of cuts is likely to be more radical. Why not? At this point, SM is driving very little additional revenue in terms of incentivizing pax to purchase flights. The more they cut the SM program, the more captive they know the remaining Medallions are - either self-imposed, or constrained by circumstances e.g. hub captives and corporate travel policy. Jeff seems to want to give it to the FO cohort first, but the PM/DM turn will come soon enough.

Delta fliers have had it easy with combining vouchers. United hasn't allowed you to combine vouchers for years.
As for getting change, UA has never allowed that. When they issued you a voucher(s), you had to ask for it in smaller dollar amounts.

United and now Delta feel they can get away with it.

Their up & coming competitors (such as Virgin America -- "travel credit files" are combinable with other credits & coupons) don't penalize customers for doing favors for them like volunteering or tolerating super delayed or mechanical'd/cxl'd flights. I suspect there are similar combinabe-ability permissions for SWA and JetBlue, and probably a couple of the remaining "majors", too.

Even if theft were the issue, how would limiting usage to one per ticket help the matter?
