Hello Everyone, I'd seen this on FT (LINK) and thought it was worth sharing here! IGR Rule 30 - Ground Transfer of Service From feedback on the FT thread, eligible pax just need to see the DL baggage service office.
Thanks for the reminder. I'd read this before but I thought it was only valid between JFK and LGA. It looks like they've added EWR as well unless I missed that in the past. Even though the service is being provided free of charge I personally wouldn't even try it without several hours between flights, especially if transiting between JFK & EWR. Traffic is just too unpredictable around NYC to make a connection with any amount of certainty. -RM
It's a nice benefit. Just bake in two hrs for lga-JFK, three for ewr-JFK...assuming hand luggage only. It could take 45 minutes to reclaim bags at either lga or ewr, an allowance for that should be added to your connection time if you need to check bags. While not ideal, it's nice to have yet another option.
Agreed on JFK-EWR. For LaGuardia it wouldn't be bad, but for JFK-EWR I think I'd stick with using the AirTrain to LIRR to NJ Transit to AirTrain roundabout way given the frequency of LIRR and NJ Transit trains and no traffic hassles. Then again, I'm always traveling carry on only, so that makes a difference (hauling around multiple bags doing that would be nightmarish)
Thanks for sharing - I didn't know about this For those who have done this, how does this ground transfer work? Can you request it ahead of time or once you arrive in New York? How often does Delta run ground transfers?
