I take you at your word. What is your schedule like in late February and early March...? I think that Dr. Kiwi will be back in town sometime during that timeperiod and I will arrange to grill another asado. That way, we can have properly cellared argentine spoof juice and you can get your hands on those babies you pulled the trigger on a few months ago.... If you can think of one more serious whino to join us, let me know...
I'm clear during the next week or so but then I'm off to Russia and after that to the MilePoint Kiva DO in San Francisco. So for me it's either now or April.
Ah.... well something right away is going to be complicated, lets work on arranging this for April then.
I gave one bottle to a Russian friend and all the others are resting comfortably in my cave waiting for them to settle down before drinking them. I am anxious to try them, but I am also trying to be patient.
I will have to wait a little for your report then...... am also curious to see what your Ruski amigo thinks.... is he based in the motherland or is he another transplanted in Rio type...?
He's a Muskovite born and bred. His SO is a wine dealer in Moscow, though. She reportedly has informed my friend that he should be nicer to me now. I will pst their comments here. You may end out being an exporter to the far frigid north!
Please keep me informed..... I am very interested in expanding my Moscow client base. The few times some big boys from Russia came to the store, I broke a few records...
And to think that Moscow is actually about the same cost as Rio de Janeiro, except for wines, where Moscow is more expensive. As for records, How about the table next to mine a few days ago drinking a 1990 Chateau Petrus? On the wine list it was shown at Roubles 340,000 (US$ 10,300). They had had other bottles before it but I do not know what they were.
jbcarioca.... dont forget to post your tasting notes on some of your new guests in your cellar when you get a chance....
Just as soon as I taste one, you'll have my notes. Of course I'll need to be at home to do that, and I'll only be there a couple fo days during the next few weeks.
Well made wines, although they are not on my A list. Too international of a style in my opinion..... I can think of a dozen other producers that have more interesting stuff at similar price points.
Tell your buddy he should take it easy with the oak and levels of extraction on some of his higher priced wines.....
you can also tell him that the wine I like best from his portfolio is the Ique..... perhaps his most modest wine...
Im going to test drive a couple of "old" Malbecs this evening... hope to have some tasting notes by tomorrow....
It has been a week, and there are no notes. It looks like you were going to test drive "a couple" - did you actually have 2? and it looks like this was supposed to have taken place a week ago Monday. Certainly it would have been no fun to take a test drive alone?
