I understand that an eVIP/SWU can upgrade three flights. However, do they have to be on the same PNR/ticket? For example, let's say I have an ORD-DFW-NRT ticket; additionally I also have a one way flight NYC-ORD. Can the eVIP/SWI upgrade all three, although on two separate PNRs/tickets?
OTOH, NYC-ORD can upgrade with 500 milers or without them since you're probably EXP (you could be a million miler and not EXP, of course, thus have eVIP's), and that's a short flight anyway.
Yes I should have clarified. I am EXP now, and usually expect to be at least PLT. So I can ug either for free, or with stickers. I just wanted to understand how far the "ug 3 legs with SWU" rule goes. Of course, given the choice, one attraction of SWU is that it can clear immediately while the other kind will wait for the 100/72 hour window.
If the fare you bought allows a stopover, you can do just that. LINK. From the T&Cs within that link: Stopovers, joint and through fares are permitted if fare purchased allows.
Thanks for the info David. I seem to recall hearing that stopovers on SWUs are allowed if allowed by the fare rules, but this stopover allowance is such a contrast to UA's SWU where the maximum connection time you have is 12 hours.
We all agree, I think. eVIP's are the best single feature of AA, for me anyway. It was even better when all the AAdvantage CC spend and anything else counted for Million Miler so one could get eight of them pretty easily in addition to the requalification ones.
If I start flying AA, this is something I will regret not being able to take AAdvantage of earlier. With all miles, including those from credit card spend & anything else, it would be a lot easier to reach AA MM or 2MM status.
