I think both JAL and NH want that but NH doesn't have enough planes and JAL can't really make an argument to expand...they are just moving flights from NRT to HND

And if they open up more slots for JAL and ANA, they need to open up more for foreign carriers too. Not sure if they can handle that much traffic right now though...

Here are ANA's numbers for comparison. Only 2.6% drop in domestic number but 16.5% increase in international traffic  But JAL has a better load factor on domestic flights (well ANA carried more passengers) :p

At least JAL did something right on the domestic side to get the load up.

Internationally...if you look at it at a twisted way, JAL's numbers drop 5.2% more than it's capacity while ANA's capacity increased 2.8% more than its number of passengers  :p

It's amazing that ANA actually carried more passengers than last year's Golden Week...you think *A vs OW make a difference here as there are way more customer base in *A than OW? Or it's just a combination of service difference and cheaper tickets?

Seemingly NH continues to have dominance in it's traditional market(Domestic) while having expanded internationally. I gather this familiarity and ease is appealing to many 地方customers. Also I still do not believe that JAL has distanced itself yet from the bad publicity of the bankruptcy! There isn't that great a difference service wise, both are good at what they do, albeit *A is larger (too large).
It was also reported that some JR companies saw huge decreases in GW travel but not JR Kyushu which saw huge increases due to the Kyushu Shinkansen.

The March data is out. International capacity was 72.9% of last year's. Number of passenger and RPK was only 59% and 58.3% of last year's numbers. SE Asia has the lowest load factor of 58.7% and overall load factor drops from 81.2% to 64.8%

But thanks to good performance for the other 11 months of the fiscal year. The whole year load factor still improves y.o.y. from 70.8% to 73.6%

Domestic network also suffered quite a bit. Some popular routes see quite a bit of decline too. HND-CTS drops below 50%

    From WSJ

    http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20110518-703659.html

    - The declines have narrowed further in May by 2 to 3 percentage points from April
    - Demand could return to pre-quake levels in as soon as six months, though a risk remains the recovery will come sometime after this year, the president said.
    - outlook won't change the company's target of posting an operating profit of Y75.7 billion in the fiscal year ending March.
    - Since the quake, the carrier has worked on cost reductions through steps spanning from a further improvement in fuel efficiency to a postponement of the re-painting of a new logo on planes. Such efforts are producing a cost reduction of "several billion yen".
    - The airline also began campaigns to promote visits to domestic tourist sites
    - The airline will launch additional measures as needed depending on demand

Well some people do know it is just that they "can't release" it ! They will have to show all of the numbers when they re-list the company! (I am sure AC wrote off at least 8 billion CDN$ on their last trip through!)

I believe they will be releasing data as if they were a listed company from now on...not sure if they meant only give out numbers quarterly or giving out more numbers and not just the op profit

I read that too....but as we all know operating profit is useless and what we really need to see are the net profits, cash flow situation etc. Somehow I don't think they will be releasing those figures yet as they are not a listed company !
