Lowest cost until UA starts getting a bunch of damaged baggage (ie, beyond typical wear and tear) claims! ;)

Might be safer to ship it ahead of her, instead of putting it in the luggage.

Absolutely. (though not sure, are there laws about shipping alcohol across state lines? Should be easy enough to find out, though)

I recall a friend who shipped wine that he had already purchased from CA to MA legally, there was some kind of FedEx or UPS office adjacent to the Vineyard. You couldn't Purchase it via the mail, but you could send it to yourself.

Might need a "Mrs HaveMilesWillTravel c/o WhoEversHouseThisIs"

What was special about the red bag: earmarked to be stolen, or what?

Thank you for posting this. I had a late soft-sided bag arrive at my hotel last month with a damaged cooler (and its contents) in it. Those Igloo coolers are made of ABS. It takes some serious abuse to dent one of those things, but they did it. I had forgotten about it, but this post reminded me that I need to write and complain. My bag, btw, went MCO-IAH-DFW (or so they said).
