I note that free internet for gold/platinum is supposed to be a benefit that was added for many hotels worldwide (to include Marriott, Renaissance, etc). Has anyone had any problems using that benefit since it started? I recall having "teething pain" issues domestically when it started here; haven't had the chance to try it outside the US yet. I'm specifically curious about the Ren in Istanbul - headed there in the not-too-distant future & want to plan ahead.

at the renaissance brussels, works here. When I checked in, got a letter explaining the Internet was free and how to connect.
I've had no problem at either the Marriott or the Renaissance in Munich, nor the Marriott in Budapest. Indeed, in Budapest, the menu that comes up when you access the internet has a specific radio button you can choose for complementary access as a Gold or Platinum. They may activate this choice at check-in (so that it doesn't present itself if you're not Gold or Plat), but I don't know. Anyway, no problems in implementation so far for me.
Ren Polat, Istanbul: nothing was said at check-in, and the login page indicated a charge of Euro 5. At checkout, all charges were reversed without request on my part. No issue at all.
I have had no issues with free internet worldwide since the benefit started. I was in EZE two weeks ago on vacation using award points and internet was definitely free. I'm in London now and internet is still free. Note: I did have a problem in SFO ironically. They put internet on my bill and forgot to take it off. A quick chat with the desk got it taken care of immediately. -RM
No problems anywhere in EMEA, Latin America, or APEC regions- in fact the only problem I have had was in the USA (where it was removed from the bill when I pointed it out).
