Gadzooks! An FTU only a few miles from home. I'm in! (just registered) - now if I can just maneuver the batmobile through the notoriously wacky Tysons traffic. Someone mentioned steakhouses... Flemings is nearby and pretty darn good altho a bit pricey.

Have you heard of the Palm Steakhouse? I've heard that is good too, but don't know anything besides that.

Coming from the south, it would be better to get off Amtrak in Alexandria and take the Blue Line to the Orange Line to West Falls Church. from the north (e.g. the NE Regional), you can avoid metro transfers by getting off at New Carrollton, which is the eastern end of the Orange Line.

By the way, while I can't make FTU itself due to another commitment, I could be persuaded to help organize a Sunday night dinner get-together for those staying over until Monday.

    that would be great

Have only been to the downtown DC Palm (consistently good, but wallet draining)... the one in Tysons is near the Hilton. Truth be told, my fave steak places are any of the Ray's restaurants in Arlington (Ray's the Steaks, Ray's Retro and Ray's to the third) - muy bueno, consistent and affordable.

Gotta agree there, Ray's is a better option than the Palm on the wallet and has good food. The new Ray's cheesesteak place next to Ray's Hell Burger is excellent as well if you don't want the steakhouse option.

There is a steakhouse in Tysons Galleria named Wildfire. I haven't been there yet, but have heard good things.

Flemings actually has a good deal right now (don't know what they will have for April), you get a Filet Mignon or NY with a 'big pour' glass of select wines for only $49.95

In the past, they have not been refundable, but you could arrange to sell it to someone else, and transfer the registration to them...

Welcome to Milepoint IvanTheNEwBDeLEon! The FTU I attended was from a transferred registration, so it is possible to transfer if you can find a buyer. Were you planning to come with your wife, or if she cannot come, will you still make the trip? Lots of information and worth the trip!
  12. I was planning on going solo but it's our anniversary weekend so she wants to either tag along and meet friends in DC while I do my thing and still be together for the 10th year. Or not go at all and. Es together for the 10th year in other words if she's not going I'm not going shuks!

Anniversary schmaniversity. Didn't we already determine a couple of pages back that there were plenty of interest to stand-in for the groom at an Indian wedding so he could attend that weekend? Get someone to sub for you for your anniversary, too. Problem solved.:D

I would absolutely get a hotel reservation now-- a "safety" res that you can always cancel. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

  18. Got a hotel reservation and i'm even thinking getting my flights through southwest if in case i don't end up going at least I'll get those points back with no fee!! Now to reserve a car...

I should probably book my flight for this. Which airport is most convenient to the hotel?

Dulles (IAD) is closer and a pretty quick trip (~15 miles) to Tyson's Corner (my opinion)
