There are still plenty of Alamo $50 certificates for $22.50 (including AMEX discount). They are good deals IMO- you can use up to three at a time, Alamo gives you decent miles for US (500 miles for a single day) and WN (1200 points per rental for 2 days or more, which is $20 on WGA fares), so you really can get pretty good value out of these.

Good reminder - keep in mind they might stick around for up to a month, so if you are hit with a high price city check to see if they are available.. I purchased them late May last year to help with a last minute rental.

If everybody uses same credit card second person trying to buy the same package will get rejected by the system..I learned that the hard way with Wyndham ( trying to get same packages for 2 people on 2 computers)...or, possibly, if same Membership number is used system will kick you out..

Thanks for the tip on this! This was a main concern of mine, so I'm extremely glad you provided this hint. Now, I'm hoping that I can contact somebody within the time limit, if I can't get through and somebody else does! Thanks again.

I didn't have any problems this year or last buying Wyndham points for several accounts using the same card.

I space it a bit though but only by a minute or so, but I was able to purchase 92k points this year and a bunch of packages last year using my card -- this year all into my account and last year into mine and the wife's.

I suppose if you try to purchase at exactly the same time you might have issues, but chances are that transactions a few seconds apart would not get rejected.

That would be great if it true ... did they change from last year's?

I bought these certs last year and they do have a special 800 number on them that you have to call to make a reservation. As far as I can recall, you saved a little bit (around $50 per rental period) but that's all you got.

Only if you need to use more than one at a time. The discount codes can be used one at a time if you don't. I just used one last week.

My rentals are often 1-2 days, so they work well for me as single certificates.

We did a weekly rental for around $275 all in after discounts. The lowest weekly rate found at the time for that class of vehicle including non-Discover America discounts was around $325.
