OK, you guys totally rock! Kids were conditionally approved in 2 days, and their interview is in 4 weeks. BTW, first available interview at SFO is on March 22.
Wow! They must be crankin' out the GE cards out there! Inverviews only took about 2 business days to book for all of us here at EWR! Anyway, congrats!
Thanks! Yeah, the last time I went into the office at SFO in July, when I lost my passport, I walked in without an appointment, and they took me right away, although they did say that they were really busy due to Amex Platinum. I think it's gotten even busier now. The funny thing is that I've used it 3 times at SFO since the summer, and there's never anybody using the kiosk when I get there.
Big difference between government "really busy" and real world "really busy." I once needed a signature from a fairly high up Army guy in the Pentagon. On the phone he made a big deal about how booked he was, how it would be difficult to squeeze in only 5 minutes, how it may be days or weeks before he could see me. So I capitulated and threw myself on his mercy saying I could be in Washington anytime in the next week and would be pleased to sit in his anteroom for hours or days as necessary. His response, after making another big show of consulting his daybook was something like, "how about anytime on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday?" Busy. Really?
Here is some more info verified by me: 1. As confirmed by others in this thread, children are now eligible to be enrolled in Global Entry. All children (even 1 year old) will need to have an interview and be fingerprinted after conditional approval. 2. If your child is already a Nexus member, he/she will get GE benefits automatically, but will need to be fingerprinted first. 3. To have your child fingerprinted, just go to any Nexus or GE enrollment centers. No appointment is necessary. Just make sure Nexus or GE office is open.
Yes. I was happy to hear that. To confirm that, I called Niagara Falls Nexus center and GE offices at EWR and IAD and all said the same.
Thanks for the follow up! On a side note, my wife and I finally got to use the TSA Pre this morning at LAX! Oh, it felt like the good old days of traveling! We didn't get our upgrades but I was in such a good mood after going through security that it almost didn't matter... A very nice perk (and a big one!) to the Global Entry program!
Congrats. I would love to enroll my child also. He has Nexus membership, so I just need to get him to any Nexus or GE enrollment center so he can get fingerprinted.
2 year old couldn't get good fingerprints so they overrode it and said he would get an X every time at the kiosk. Just show agent and he would be fine. 5 year old was simple. Haven't tried infant yet as we are still trying to get passport.
It is $100 for them also. I got one refunded with my Amex Platinum. We go to SFO next week for my kids' interview. My 7-year-old was just saying, "What are we doing next week? Oh yeah, it's our Global Entry interviews."
Nexus is a cheaper way to go if you can get to a Nexus enrollment center for an interview. It is $50 and includes GE membership plus kids are free
Thanks - I have GE for myself but not Nexus. Will have to check if I can get Nexus for the kids if I don't have it.
Called a Nexus service center to answer my own question. Kids can have a Nexus membership even if the parents don't.
Used GE with the family through LAX today. Took maybe 5 minutes to go through, out to T6 security and back airside in 10 minutes. UA had us protected on a flight for Friday if we missed the flight. That would have meant a days wages lost, which is much more than what I spent on GE.
