Go for the Emerald - oneworld Contest

I went through it three times to get my AA miles (hung up the first two) and then once more to get the BA ones. Unfortunately for the mister, it's too much of a PITA to get the miles for him. I did send him a link though.

By the way, I'd like to point out that we beat TOBB on posting this - by an hour. That can be critical in a contest, especially like this where there's a bonus for early entries.

TOBB's a great site. But mainly for serious stuff. I surely wouldn't equate it with mileage contests.

Got that for everyone in my family. Just click on hints and then the highlighted spots. Another dumb "contest" where everyone can be number 1. At least for a second or two. But hey we'll all take the 1k miles. Thanks One World!

An update from earlier. I eventually gave up because I kept getting error messages after hitting the register button at the end. Well, I just checked my junk mail and I had 5 messages from OneWorld telling me that I was entered and would be receiving 1000 miles. I guess it was going through after all. Wouldn't it be nice if they really gave me all 5000 miles?

For the high score, did you get 18,400?

That's the number. Seems hard to score less, even if you're not trying to click very quickly.

I was just trying to do this again for JL and CX, but the site wouldn't load . I should be happy with AA and BA .

How do you run the game for an airline other than AA?

On the landing page, you first pick an airline. You can do once for each Oneworld airline if you have their FF account.

I keep getting "ERROR PLACEHOLDER" after I enter my (kids') info for BA.

Yeah the site is still pretty horrible... sometimes it loads but more often than not it times out at some point. I completed it (finally) about an hour ago and it told me there were over 33k entries already. Got two errors (a completely broken page once and an error placeholder once) when I tried to submit the final form.

Might need to clear your cookies or use a private web session to make that work.

An hour ago there were 33K? I just tried my daughter again for BA since I don't get that final "tell your friends" page, and she was in the 33K range also - #1, I might add.

So it looks like that counter isn't updating too well.

What does get me though is how these companies obviously continue to underestimate how popular some of these contests/promos will be and end up getting hammered.

Yes! I was just saying that. Haven't they learned anything already? Put a unique entry code in the email or something - or beef up your servers and be realistic.

Well for targeted promos I suppose it makes sense... they have a gate that says "hey, you can't come in... too bad. Go away" and they budget for what they anticipate would be a realistic number of people.

But when they don't plan it right and leave things wide open like this, it's terrible. Even if it's 30k people over the last x number of hours, this is horrendous performance by what should be a fairly simple flash application.

But if nothing else it's a learning experience (for us, I suppose). I'm still bitter about the terrible performance of the servers during the Discover America sales last year.

Not to get too far off track, but the one that was worse was the Priority Club trivia one by ePrize that had the answers actually embedded, in clear text, in the flash source.

And as to Discover America, I'm ashamed to say that I still have some winnings from that one unused.

It's at 57k now. I got #1 which means lots of people will be qualifying for top,score.

Should I be ashamed that I'm ranked 28K out of 58K?
