Looks like I got your attention! If USAirways does the Grand Slam promotion again this year, let's use this thread to keep us all up to date. As of today, August 1st, 2011 there has not been an announcement, but historically, the Grand Slam is announced in August. I think I hear Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast calling..
Not a peep yet... but hoping it will come through agin this year. I could use some EQM's to boost my total miles a bit.
It's like being a teenager again and wondering if your parents are going to let you go to Six Flags because they took you there once before.
Does anyone recall the date they released the promotion last year? If I remember correctly we found out in late August.
Grand Slam 2010 predates Milepoint, but it was exacty August 23rd (you tend to remember these things ). The promo ran from 9/1 to 11/14. Having the info early for this year would help a great deal for planning strategies, since finding cheap/free hits from partner spending is key.
Every Grand Slam has begun on Sept 1st (2008, 2009, 2010) and ended on or around 11/15. Oddly, 11/14/2010 was a Sunday, 11/16/2009 was Monday and I can't recall nor find the precise date on which the first one ended in 2008.
GS 2008 ran from 9/1 to 11/30 (which was a Sunday) and you could earn "only" 40k miles at the time with 28 hits. Seems like every year they're getting somewhat more elaborate with the rewards though, since GS 2k9 was 50k miles for the same number of hits, then GS 2010 was 60k miles for 28 hits or 100k for 32. Do we dare dream... maybe 200k miles this year? Now that would be sweet...
80K for 32 hits, 100K for 36 hits. But who's counting, that was last year. And yes, I plug GS11 into that daily to see what pops up. No luck so far. As long as it's not quite as tough as 2008. Didn't care for the hotel or car hits requiring two stays or two rentals, respectively. But at least some people (first 50 to get all 28 hits) got gold status out of it, or a gold nomination if the member was already gold or above.
Ah yes... 60k for 28, 80k for 32 and 100k for 36. But it makes you wonder what things will look like considering the promo has been evolving over the years. I think there were a possible 70-72 hits if you did everything last year, so my fear is that US will up the ante by offering 150k for 40-48 hits or something crazy like that. I mean I like playing as much as the next guy but some of those hits were just not available or plain old undesirable
He said they're bringing in extra contractors to help with this and some other conversions. If you're local and interested, I can find out what agency they're using.
I've really only gotten into the miles game in the past few months...I've heard a lot about the 2010 Grand Slam, but does someone care to enlighten me as to what exactly the promotion was and how it worked? Thanks!
