Thanks. I figured that out that one can upload a file in normal conversation. I could not see something similar when one is sending a PM. I only saw a start a new conversation and an editor + Insert Edit/Image.
So us Grand Slam "newbies" don't have to read the FT thread? Or should we?? I was going to read it and then when someone said 500 pages..........I was like WOW! I might have to do a lot of skimming What's the verdict here?
If you have a ton of free time, read it. Otherwise, just wait for the terms to be posted and let the old veterans figure it all out!
Definitely not much "free time" for this Momma. Only so much nap time and burning the late night oil.
I agree with arkleseizure. There's no urgent reason to read all of last year's stuff. It will all be revealed in due time by the veterans as well as the newbies getting into it for the first time. No reason to make this more work than it has to be. Personally, I would just assume barely discuss it publicly until the new promo's T&Cs have been officially announced.
Not to mention that it's gonna piss you off when you realized how many miles you could have had from the stuff you did anyway...
Here is the spreadsheet which I used last year. I am not sure who was the noble soul who created it last year so please don't credit me for that. I got this spreadsheet from FT thread last year. The numbers might need to be adjusted as per the new guidelines for 2011.
I have to make a flight early September, will be US Airways as it is the best way for me to get to Vegas to lose my money. Is there any point holding off on my reservation until GS details are announced or going on past years it will make no difference?
Any non-US milepointers try doing the grand slam promotion last year? Just wondering how difficult it will be, as many of the partners seem US based...
I did it last year and had 26 hits IIRC. Many of them are USA domestic and those there is no chance but there are lots of hotels, car rentals and such. Last year there wa only SQ among airlines but this year I would like to believe the rumor I am starting that they´ll have other *A carriers too.
Awesome! I'll probably have lots of points transfers thanks to gathering hotel points with topguest for brands I don't frequent often. I have to rent a car over labour day... hopefully GS will start by then as I don't rent cars too often (expensive in Alberta!).
For those of you needing to top off a hotel account for transfer to DM, use Topguest and Foursquare. Hilton, Choice, Wyndham, Priority Club, and Best Western are all on there. 50 points per day. Be careful how fast you checkin otherwise they will boot you.
What is Milepoints policy on trades and bartering? Is it like the other ones coupon connection where you need so many posts?
Same one I used. Ah, the memories... Obviously, MP wasn't around last year at this time, but FT was generally pretty lenient in terms of allowing trades to be discussed. Of course, none of it was for really big bucks, either. I'm pretty sure that will happen. Of course, whomever starts the thread might get stuck being the head "modifier" of the initial post, which was where we had traditionally kept a list of the cheapest way to get each hit. Mike
I'm planning to create a milepoint wiki page (or pages, if necessary) for content which can be managed by multiple members. It might be a bit of a test for the wiki, though. We'll see how it deals with multiple members trying to update it at once.
Yeah, the young'ns and their interweb these days. Man, I remember how excited I was to get an electronic typewriter. Mike
Based on the last few years, actually flying was the one way you couldn't get a hit (except for last year where only a paid flight on SQ got a hit). So book your flight and don't fret about it. I'd say it's far more likely that your fare goes way up than we see flight activity add to the hit count.
LOL - I did just get an electric typewriter - got 450 Priority Club points and waiting on an additional 1,500 bonus points for purchases over $100. The person at Office Depot couldn't believe that they actually sold one! Since that gives me enough points to transfer to US Airways, I guess that I am now going to have to move my office supply orders over to another mall - probably Choice. Will still have to purchase a few Choice Points though.
Because prior year tax forms don't line up well with my printer and it is much easier to use the typewriter. I could handwrite them, but it looks better written. Topic - I wonder if LASIK will be a hit this year. You can earn 1,000 pts just for a free consultation. I am not a good candidate, but I will go listen to them for a hit!
Hmm...wonder what they'd say if I went in for a consultation, given that I had it done in May. I'd be a little disturbed if they still tried to sell me on it.
