NY Times: Greetings from Afghanistan As I'm in Kabul right now, it seemed appropriate to post this... I can attest to the fact this country has some very beautiful areas - lakes, rivers, mountain passes, etc. I've even flown over where the Buddhas once were. For the record, I do not live in daily fear of being shot, blown up, or kidnapped...
Some pics... Safi 762 that I flew to DXB on Friday: Me on top of a mountain near Kabul on my first deployment in 2007: Mountain above from the distance:
Thanks for the pics - what a shame that so many beautiful places are so scarred by wars, be safe and thanks for your participation here!
Thanks 'rwoman' for your post, the pictures posted and your service to the nation. It is reassuring to know that you are not constantly living in fear of losing life or limb. Hope things will take a turn for the better and you will be able to come back home soon. Please keep posting any 'non-sensitive' pictures that you take about the life there together with a narrative, specially the plight of women. They have been, and will be the forgotten lot when we finally do pull out. Be safe, enjoy your stay there, and take us along on your journey via pictures and descriptions. God bless!
