I understand that Hertz does flat mileage bonuses when you rent and book the rental to some FF programs... for example, LAN received a flat 500 mile per rental last year, this was my experience. For short term rentals, this seems like a killer deal vs. most of the other US airlines that offer 1 mile per dollar spend only on the rental base rate.... am I thinking this correctly or am I missing something...? Thanks !!
Most of the airline mileage earnings seem to be a flat rate per day (say, 50 or 75 miles). Usually not worth it given the fee they charge you for the miles. I nowadays usually just take Hertz points (no fee) unless I need to have miles posted to a particular program to keep it from expiring. Here's a current example for Hertz/UA: http://united.com/web/en-US/apps/mileageplus/promotions/registrationDetails.aspx?promoCode=A10039
I agree but last year I was getting 500 miles flat for my LAN rentals, and that was very good, especially for the short one or two day rentals..... I will wait to see what Hertz credits my LANPass account for this weekly rental I just finished.... but it seems that LAN and its systems are on some sort of transition and credits are taking very very long so dont know how long I will have to wait to see what Hertz will throw my way....
Wow... that is indeed an excellent amount of miles, almost good enough to want to make separate one day rentals....
Agree with others on this thread. I think Hertz points are worth it if you ever need rental cars - the miles don't make fiscal sense for me!
