After some enhancements is it still valuable to achieve it?
MR if how many miles are missing?

People who mileage run for HON status will be disappointed at the end of the day.
If you fly enough anyway to obtain this status you can relax and enjoy the benefits.
People who fly out of their way to obtain the status will always try to maximise their way through the lounges, etc.
Those are probably the ones complaining about van rides at the FCT.
    Just my 2 miles...

But what if 100k are missing to the status?

I'd say go for a MR if 30-40k are missing. Everything else is a waste of money IMHO.
100k miles will set you back €4-5k. Not worth it.

2 RTW Tickets and 4 CAI Tickets in F give s me 400'000 HON Miles and with my European C flights i will reach this year 525'000 HON Miles.
2 CAI Tickets in C will give you 100'000 HON Miles and it costs not more than 3500 EURO !

EUR 3.500 is still too much just to obtain HON status IMHO.
It's all these people who spend large amounts of money just to reach the threshold that need to maximise so they don't feel short changed.

And it is not only money but also time that is needed for the MRs. IMHO even 3k + 3 days for the flights is too much.

HON is fine if you can achive it anyway but anything else...

All I fly is private and the HON comes as a present. So no loses.

To me, a MR means that I primarily fly for the miles and than it is not a present. If I want to fly to CDG anyway and I "optimise" the routing via ZRH and make use of the LX business saver, this is a different story and I would not call it an MR. But I would not invest any additional money and time just for the miles is not worth it IMHO.

I think it makes quite a difference if you're based in FRA or MUC because of the FCT/FCL. Otherwise, and especially if you're travelling to the US with a non-existing arrivals service its not really much more worth than SEN. One point that is still left is the unlimited award availability in biz if this is important to you.

As SEN you basically get comparable attention in difficult situations IMO and experience.

I for myself would try to get the last 100k miles within two years if I would be above 500k anyway. Not much more.

A lot of people optimize their routings to achieve the needed miles.

I think it's more valuable for MUC and FRA based members, but I would not spend thousands of dollars to get access to the First Class lounges/Terminal/Service there. If I was very close, maybe, but I would have to be VERY close..

I don't have time to do mileage runs and I also don't want to waste time to do creative routings. But hey, that's me..
  1. I agree... there is too much things in this world to do than to fly in circles. Until now I have comfortably qualified to the necessary level (Gold or equivalent) of whichever airline I have been flying frequently, and that has given me the basic comforts and a sizable chunk of points/miles. Beyond that, I don't fancy European Y seats so much that I would want to spend more time than necessary in them.

I have noticed that Hon get better treatment in hk upon landing than f passengers as they get cart service.

I would say go for it and make the decision yourself if its worth it.

People who chase any status based on mileage runs will always be disappointed I think.

Virgin lounge in lhr is more enjoyable than fct or fcl imo.

Depends on the person. Everybody should be happy on his own way. I won't judge him.
