How does milepoint differ from other travel forums?

It's been great (and addictive) so far. Feels much more active than FT, and more personal. Even hanging out with the same bunch of guys in the Japan forums seems more fun over here. Love the notifications and conversations, and looking forward to seeing new features (especially mobile) come in [IMG]

When I reveal my name, I enter into a different relationship....a relationship of higher trust. My name is my most precious resource.....that is why identity theft is so devastating...it not only about the hasstle of claiming back your legal identity but it is most of all the theft of who I am.

And how do we know what people post is reality? There is a reason why there is a concept called internet persona.

Indeed. On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.

I feel that a big benefit of being a new site is a greater willingness to share because MP is still undiscovered. With the attention that FT receives from newbies from Fatwallet, the mainstream press, and corporate observers, I think that group became very risk averse that secrets would be discovered and potentially corrected. It's a tough balance to strike though - how do you maintain an open community but have confidence that members of that community will be sufficiently discrete not to go around killing golden geese?

While that is a valid concern, there is at least one private forum to which one must achieve a certain status for access, and confidential information may be exchanged there.

Also, information may be exchanged via conversations, which allows one or more milepoint.com members to discuss topics privately. A higher status level increases the limit as to how many milepoint.com members may participate in a conversation.

This could have the potential of becoming controversial, as there may be some milepoint.com members who might believe that discussions that could be potentially beneficial to all milepoint.com members should be discussed publicly. If it does not already exist, perhaps this could be discussed in a separate discussion. However, I have no opinion regarding this issue at this time...

There is also a private chat function for those who follow each other - click on handle in "Who's Online" at lower right to access.

There are always certain things that are better if the whole world doesn't know. Sometimes they are trivial, other times they are related to miles/points. Sure it might be nice if you told everyone, but when that kills the gravy train that doesn't help anyone.

The one thing I would love to see is private user-groups for sensitive promo strategizing. What I have seen on FT is that major promos like Grand Slam, the US TIB shopping from 2009, various PC promos is that the techniques to maximize them go viral and end up all over Fat Wallet/Slick Deals type sites and then too many people jump in and spoil it for everyone. I know VB has this function, I would think this software would too. Basically, it would be nice to have the really creative promo strategies NOT showing up in search engines.
