I want that 100k MR but I'm a little intimidated...

I did a 3 car AOR in the end of November: Chase Ink Bold, Chase United Explorer, AmEx Hilton HHonors NAF. Before that I got the SPG Personal and US Air Barclays on September 1st. I got the Citi AA Amex and Mastercard in July and the Chase BA Visa in June.

All in all, from Amex I have:
    Blue Sky (2010)
Citi AA (June 2012)(I don't think that counts though, that is Citi right? Even though it is an Amex card?)
    SPG Personal (September 1, 2012)
    Amex NAF (November 23, 2012)

    I am super excited about this 100K MR Platinum Amex but I am intimidated about the annual fee and about applying so soon from some recent Amex applications. {I did read how you could possible get $200 in gift cards for the airline allowance this year and then another $200 at the start of 2014 to make the fee essentially $50 before closing it. I don't fly enough for the lounge benefits to be worthwhile.}

Are my hesitations valid? Or from you experts out there should I jump on this wagon?

I would be hesitant too, but I think that the 100K points is well worth it and from the reports, it looks like AA GC's are reimbursed if purchased in small amounts (< $100). Wish I had the 100K offer. :(

if you've waited this long, i think you may be too late. just saw a few people state they are no longer getting the offer

Oh no! I pulled up the offer about 20 minutes before I posted this. I also put in my email to have Amex email em the offer to apply later today. I guess that make this whole thing irrelevant. My mind is going crazy with the possibilities of 100,000 KrisFlyer miles :).

I jumped due to the low spend. I guess the biggest downside is it could trigger a financial review or card canceling - you have to take that into account, can you live without Amex (yes for me) and could you weather having a block of your cards cancel (yes for me)...

The 100K points are valued (in my opinion) much higher than the $450 annual fee. Plus like you said you have the ability to get the annual fee in essence for $50... I jumped on it because I knew that if I didn't I would spend the rest of 2013 kicking myself! :)

How often do offers like this come around? Once a year?

I feel like its about twice a year, but they often have much higher spend requirements - like $10k.

    I don't recall a 100k Platinum offer since I got mine in March 2011.

Offer is gone. I really wanted that but it is probably better. I don't want to get too greedy.... :(

I did drool at the thought of my wife and I getting the a380 suites from LAX to Tokyo first class:)

Even then they are targeted. This one was for just about everyone.

For a data point, I have received the reimbursement for one $200 AA GC purchase each of the last 3 years. The 100k MR bonus is an incredible deal for a great (albeit expensive) card.

I have never even heard of a 100K MR Platinum card that is non-targeted.

The net cost for the card is $25 if Amex has the Small Business promotion again
