is Business class worth it?

Pretty much I can get to Italy with the wife for 120,000 total in economy 30k each way for each of us...My question is that I see if we go on certain dates, We can go at least one way in business class for another 20k miles apiece...it looks like it would be with Lufthansa....is it worth it and the effort it'll take to get the extra points?

    Thanks!

no brainer, yes! better seats, better food, better care....better everything. Your seat tilting back more than 5 degrees is a another benefit.

Well where are you flying from?

Most people will argue that on short hauls Business (or even First) is not worth the premium over E+, but on a transatlantic trip LH Business product is absolutely worth the mileage over just flying Y. IMO.

I am flying from Chicago to Rome...I have a bad back so better seats is definitely something I am interested in. Can you describe them?

Without any hesitation I would jump on business class for that flight. Given the distance involved, the small amount of points being asked, I would be all over that offer. Only thing you should realise is going in business class will take away your future ability to ever believe that going in economy is an ok thing.

Ten hundred percent, as Phillip J. Fry would say.

Chicago to Rome in Y for 30k or Business for 50k is a no-brainer. And agreed on the future as well... the wife will never ever ever want to fly economy after doing that trip on business. :)

I just read some pretty terrible reviews. Have they changed them for the better recently?

The only person that would give Lufthansa TATL business a bad rap would be the one that has been on Lufthansa TATL in F. :)

And believe me, compared to being on the back of the bus, it's absolutely worth it.

Close this window right now and go book. I'm sure someone will come around with specifics depending on the flight number and other factors, but it really is a no-brainer for that flight.

are the seats long enough to sleep in?

They are certainly longer and more comfortable to sleep in than the seats in coach!

I think you definitely need to look at the flights -- specific flights -- to figure out the product.

A cursory look at the route shows LH9xxx flights are operated by UA, going ORD-FRA-FCO. Those are 777s to Frankfurt, then A321s to FCO.

By comparison the LH flights themselves appear to be A340s.

Wait, are you using miles or paying for the seat? I thought you were using miles for the whole trip, and booking coach one way and business the other.

Remember that those OW rates are usually the same or just a little less than RT - the beauty of airline pricing.

One word to the wise though - once you start going in C, it would be very very very (might I say even VERY) hard to get back to Y. I'll never forgive AC for upgrading me from Y to C - it made my traveling since than much more expensive. Of course CX F was also a life shuttering experience. ;-)

Charles- Right..i just wanted to see the cash value of the a ticket like that...$3000 each way in business?
  13. CharlesG Gold Member

That could be right. So you see you'd be getting excellent value for those business class seats, but I'd book them before they are gone from the system.

it appears tho the main leg would be swiss airlines...any opinions on their business?

priority checkin, club access proir to bording, priority bagage so you bag comes out first and you get thru customs quicker, larger seat, more space, the chance to sit up stairs in a 747, pre departure drink, and you might never actually pay for such a ticket and it sure is nice to see what is out there.

particlemn is right; I'm not sure what more you're looking for us to tell you. I think most everyone here would agree that upgrading to business on a TATL flight is preferable to flying coach. Sure, there are differences between the different business class products, but at worse you'll get a lie-flat bed that will fit a person up to 6' 2" (though at an angle), a couple of meals, on-demand movies and all the things particlemn lists. It is worth it! Book it! :)

Keep in mind, LH F is upstairs on the 747.......there is an armed guard to correct you in case you wander off the C path.
