Status happens. End of story. [IMG]

The "I want to be liked!" thread is all about increasing your street cred on MP. Some of us don't need that.....

Personally I view the status levels as fun - end of story. Will I ever be be near the top? No. Do I want to be? No. Am I enjoying the ride? Yes indeed. Street cred has nothing to do with it for me... it is simply the journey along the way and it is enjoyable and I have meet and made some good MP acquaintances as a result - ones I would never have made otherwise. That to me is what it is about ... not street cred; not status. If my levels go up as a result of me having fun, that is a side benefit ... nothing more.

To imply that these activities are detracting from MP is to do a disservice to MP and what has been going on the past 2 weeks. I have in addition tried to post useful help to newbies based on my 2 week experience; learned a lot myself along the way; hope I am helping the AC forum getting going; so there is more to everyone's experience here than just likes, but the profile counts to not break it down :) My opinion anyway ...

Back to your regularly scheduled programming :)

The nonsense threads don't improve the site's content. Simultaneously, they're disconnecting the Status Point system from its intended purpose, which was to encourage the building of substantive site content that's recognised by others to be helpful, and to act as a future guide to the level of substantive help that individual members have contributed.

If some members are allowed to collect tens of thousands of Status Points merely by playing in nonsense threads, while other members whose every post is substantive and constructive are awarded only a fraction of those Status Points, then the system will be completely useless.

What's happened so far demonstrates this very real danger.

But if so, the tail currently appears to be wagging the dog.

Which I am sure the MP team thought of and will overtime deal with with the watson-like algorithm they have at their disposal. I think we need to remember we are still in beta-mode and in beta, things appear different than in real-life :)

Actually, out of 3,200+ discussions, I can think of only 10-20 that are the like fests.....so not a bad ratio.....

those likeathon threads probably take over 50% of the posts in MP...which is pointless (i know i joined them for the fun also)

Then Beta testing accomplished exactly what was intended and revealed flaws with your belief of how the system should work. If you're belief predominates among those who have the power we'll see changes in the near future.

MP has 80k messages so far. The like threads and counting threads account for just over 20k, so 25%.

Anyways where is the GOLD bar set right now?! I say 3000sp with it increasing 200-300 by day...

Thanks for the observation—it's pretty factual. And you are correct, not a bad ratio when we do need outlets to test things.

THe purpose of a Beta is for many reasons and we've explained them in the lead introductions and subsequent comments. I'm pretty sure that with untested software in this new platform we would have no idea if our benefit of having a members privileges go to ad-free upon getting to Gold (or whatever we eventually call that level) if we did not lossen things up so that someone could achieve the level during Beta. So we have that out of the way and i think it smarter to do that now than not test and assume and once someone does reach those levels in the normal participation of MilePoint have it fail. Anyway, we have continued to identify the actions and options we needed feedback from and they are certainly helping us tweek the final version of MilePoint.

Appreciate the efforts of many to get this project ready and guess what, today we are now just two weeks into the Beta and a mere six weeks into the entire project. Thank you all.

You may well be on to something. Thursday was record of over 10,000 posts on MilePoint. That far exceeds any daily average we experienced over on FlyerTalk and (cross my fingers) I'm pleased to say that we had no hickups on the server side of things. This was a very importnat stress test.

While I get what Globalizer and one or two others might be observing, I'll repeat again, we are using a new software platform that is not yet in its Gold Release from the developer. It is a risk that many would not take to launch on such an untested and possibly unstable platform but i have much faith in the technology and our tech team to make it work. Having said that, it most certainly does require real world, not just server side load testing and if some of the "like" activity helps us tweek for optimum performance during Beta, I just don't know what else will. With the changeover last night and some additional server side tuning, we (as i have noted elsewhere) will begin the process of tuning the content for just such reasons.

And I really have to thank those that have been allowed to be a little more activity for helping us make sure we did choose the best technology platform for MilePoint. As for the status and the "likes", it now seems that the industry will follow us:

Apparently there are plans for bonus miles and status related to "like" and follow the AAdvantage program.

Thanks and regardless of your status, you've all been valuable in different ways during this Beta period.

I checked the Inside Flyer mileage converter, but I couldn't find a way to convert my Status Points into Delta MQM's, nor is there a way to convert SkyMiles into Status Points. I assume that is just a bug in the beta, but how soon can we expect a fix?
    • Original Member

    Randy Petersen Founder

Actually I know we are currently upgrading that software to allow conversion into SkyPeso's and then you'll have to go from there!

ive been reading one main forum, and one new forum. (on milepoint)

i think im going to stop reading the main forum, because some guy just starting spamming replies, most of which are pure spam. (and if i do stop, not sure ill start reading it again.)

now obviously im "rare" and im not saying otherwise, but this is still potentially an issue...
