CX is notorious for its system issues when it comes to Award Availability. While CX Award Availability is supported via 4 different engines in the KVS Tool, the data from the recently introduced [Awards/JL-OneWorld] Method is the most authoritative and will match the current Availability that BA/AA and other OneWorld partner agents are seeing.
Does it make sense that BKK -> HKG -> LAX shows two first class seats on CX using all methods, but HKG -> LAX shows only one seat using all methods? I called AA on this once and need to call again to get someone to find it See flight CX 880 segment: [KVS Availability Tool 6.9.9.R2/Diamond - Axess: Awards/JL-OneWorld] Code: BKK Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Intl TH [VTBS] LAX Los Angeles Intl CA US [KLAX] THU 29 Nov 2012 Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability --------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- ------------- CX 750 BKK 11:55 HKG 15:35 772 0 FS/ CS0 YS1 -> CX 882 HKG 16:25 LAX 12:55 77W 0 FS0 CS0 YS1 CX 750 BKK 11:55 HKG 15:35 772 0 FS/ CS0 YS0 -> CX 880 HKG 23:45 LAX 20:15 77W 0 FS0 CS0 YS0 CX 754 BKK 12:40 HKG 16:25 343 0 FS/ CS2 YS0 -> CX 880 HKG 23:45 LAX 20:15 77W 0 FS2 CS1 YS0 CX 712 BKK 16:25 HKG 20:00 773 0 FS/ CS2 YS0 -> CX 880 HKG 23:45 LAX 20:15 77W 0 [b]FS2[/b] CS1 YS0 CX 702 BKK 19:10 HKG 22:45 333 0 FS/ CS0 YS0 -> CX 880 HKG 23:45 LAX 20:15 77W 0 FS0 CS0 YS0 [KVS Availability Tool 6.9.9.R2/Diamond - Axess: Awards/JL-OneWorld] Code: HKG Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH] LAX Los Angeles Intl CA US [KLAX] THU 29 Nov 2012 Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability --------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- ------------- CX 884 HKG 13:05 LAX 09:40 77W 0 CS0 YS2 CX 882 HKG 16:25 LAX 12:55 77W 0 FS1 CS0 YS0 CX 880 HKG 23:45 LAX 20:15 77W 0 [b]FS1[/b] CS1 YS0 It even seems to vary in the first example based on the flights slected from BKK?
Thank you, so am I correct in reading the FAQ as the "system error" doesn't work in my favor- even if I want the full Married Segment? If you run across a case of Married Segments when searching for Award/Upgrade Availability, check Availability segment-by-segment to determine the Actual Award/Upgrade Availability for each flight. This flyer talk post gives me hope: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18531641-post855.html since I want the married segments. I'll call back.
Amazing timing - I ran into this exact same issue in the last few days. I was going the other way, but whatever. My problem was, AA couldn't get the seats. But I kept seeing them in KVS. AA got me one but had to get the other in Business. After figuring that maybe Cathay was basically reserving one for the longer itinerary, I called back, and said I wanted the itinerary checked point to point, not by segment. I provide the dates and flight numbers, and, amazingly, got the seat. I'm still shocked that it actually worked. Granted I have the tickets on hold for five days, and not fully ticketed yet, but I can see the seats online, so I think I'm good.
You can definitely try booking the 2 segments together (via a Long-Sell, if necessary) and see if CX will confirm. However, it is difficult to predict the outcome, especially given the various system issues that CX is continuing to experience, following their recent conversion to Amadeus ...
Thanks again to you both. I called and tried the agent still only could see the one seat... I tried to get the agent to specifllly check via BKK->LAX and she said she could only see one seat even with that. I'll keep trying.
Yes, I can see the space on KVS tool under OneWorld, JL, and BA methods... I'm trying to upgrade from Biz to First since my first routing was downgraded to Biz only...
I wish I had a way to access my agent for you. She was entirely helpful, and seemed to be able to enter the request in a different way than previous agents. It might be worth just another call-back.
