livingsocial is offering two packages for the San Francisco Fairmont - one at $2,000 and one at $10,000. Each come with lifetime platinum status. Details here.

I would easily spend 2K to keep my spg platinum status for lifetime. Is FPC lifetime platinum worth the $2,000 ?

If you were young and had some cash to spare and planned to be staying in Fairmont Hotels every now and again why not go for an offer like this. Even I am slightly temped.

Wow, I would totally probably possibly do this. Every year I book an extra room or two to keep my status (and not even platinum at that) love the suite upgrades, etc. Might be a nice deal in the end

    How is Fairmont doing financially?

Do you think you would get all the plat amenities like a free night and suite upgrades each year ?

I would double check on the lifetime bit. The wording above sounds like an overly enthusiastic reporter adding the word lifetime at the end and not in context with what he seems to be recopying from his press release.

Looks like Platinum for a year to me, unless something directly from Fairmont says otherwise.

Edit: though there is a box at right that says "permanent" platinum status. hmmmmm

also noticed that is one person refers three, they get theirs free. This brings the cost down to 1,500

Can we get 4 people that want in on this? If it's $1,500 for lifetime status I think it's definitely worth it.

Ok so here are the numbers, if it is permanent excluding upgrades and frivolous bonuses.
1 Presidential Suite Stay (Min Value: 200)
1 Free Night a Year (Min Value: 200)
    100 in GC to restaurant/spa

So annually it pays out 300, plus those other perks, plus 200 up front.
4-5 year payoff (if you didn't earn this status on your own.)

I'm in if someone wants to pair up, but is there ANY way to confirm it means truly LIFETIME PLATINUM?

How can we confirm? It states "Both Packages Include Health Club and Group Exercise Classes, Wi-Fi, and Permanent Platinum Status to The Fairmont's President's Club Program" but I can't tell another way to confirm other than someone who went ahead and purchased this. Can anyone confirm that has bought it?

Power of group buying going to happen soon! I don't think it's a stretch for this to be real. Fairmont offers Platinum for all Centurion card holders, and I think 5 nights for AMEX Platinum holders.

You just click on the "Buy Now" and then you can select the $2,000 one.

Actually, the picture looks like the Diplomat suite.

I think it is the diplomate suite based on the pictures being the same. I've been in that suite before it is just the one bedroom as I recall

I'm in for a group buy, I missed the last email and the previous group buy participant went with another three. I'll be on the email for the next couple hours. how does the group buy actually work, I don't see any links.
