I don't have problems with CAs at all. They sometimes try to start a conversation with me in English too. Maybe I am just more approachable and "likable" :p

you're a JGC. they did start a convo with me as well, just that not all are as ok as each other, and when that particular FA was on duty the team made sure she could come across to where i was :rolleyes::confused:

or did i oversaw something?

That's also true when I was not a JMB elite. But more likely because I am just sitting across they at the exit row. :p

Anyone had a cabin head on JAL (not JO) that's not Japanese? On my last HKG-NRT flight, I was greeted by this HKG based cabin attendant and she is the head of the Y cabin. I was a bit surprise as this is the first time I had a non-Japanese CA greeting me :)

Um no it's not. If it is an exit row seat, you will get a special instruction card.

They always talk to me in Japanese no matter what. They know I am a foreigner but I guess they have already profiled me yeah? Does that make me likable as well??? [IMG]

You might not be missing much - on some domestic flights the PA in English is basically incomprehensible because of very poor pronunciation. Those flights have all been on routes without many non-Japanese people though, so I can't complain, and I'm not complaining about it. I sort of felt sorry for the cabin crew because they were clearly having a hard time reading from the sheet (I could see it from my seat).

On a serious note, I think there should be a safety PA in English if there is a likelihood that someone on board does not speak Japanese, even if it's not so well-executed. At least pointing to a safety card and asking an individual to read it is a start and better than nothing.

It still gives me a somewhat cheap and unfair giggle when I hear the word "fright" (when meaning "flight"), however. I know I shouldn't giggle but the context makes it a bit amusing in a twisted way.

I'm wondering if it could be that they need to do something to 'demonstrate' some kind of an effort to have the safety aspects understood by who appear to be non-Japanese speakers, if they are not making a safety PA in English?

On all my flights so far they made the safety PAs in Japanese and English, although as mentioned in my previous post the English version is sometimes incomprehensible.

I also suspect cabin crew might be going by the name on the passenger list to see if the passengers speak Japanese or not rather than what they look like. Only my suspicion though, and not a scientific observation.

This can't be true....On my domestic run last week.

OKA-HND-OKA-HND had english and Japanese annoucements.

    HND-OKA-ITM had Japanese annoucements only.

Yea one complaint I have is they seem kind of inconsistent. They should just have both Japanese and English announcements all the time.

I think that it would be easier to assume that there is someone among the passengers who doesn't speak Japanese and standardize on making announcements in both languages all the time.
