There's a thread in the DL forum now about the emergency landing of an ATL bound plane that has brought up another humorous example of MP trying to keep the language clean here. In the OP, a quote of a news story (bad proofreading by them) had the word/phrase cockpit used as one word and also written as two words chicken pit. The latter was censored because apparently we are not allowed to talk about male chickens, only chickens in general and presumably the females (hens), although we might be allowed to discuss roosters. I believe the difference is that roosters may be any age while cocks must be old, as in the French dish coque au vin. AFAIK we can discuss poulets, which are the youngish females. (I could digress into the different words for chickens of various descriptions in German that clearly specify the age and sex of the bird one is eating.) I'd use a smiley but I'm posting from an iPad.
A team of cocks is fine. Go Cocks! http://milepoint.com/forums/threads...-your-stay-with-us.484/page-1855#post-1451690
Won't someone think of the lonely chicken? Poor guy, shunned while all of the other cocks are allowed to express themselves. chicken of the Rock doesn't quite work either.
So part of the problem is singular versus plural: chicken bad but cocks OK Dick now OK, dick ? but dicks or Dicks no problem Let's try bitch versus bitches (one or many female dogs)
Unsavory characters may sneak up from behind and cold chicken you. Or even worse, chicken a gun and demand your wallet. Seems like a chicken eyed word to censor.
In the infamous words of George Carlin " batman piss **** bad girl ********** bad guy tits" How much censoring does George get?
Glad you like the fact that Milepoint has the least censoring of any of the major frequent flyer forums. Let's be fair here, when the industry started to put in those security nets that flight attendants sometimes put up when the cockpit door is open to prevent passengers from accessing that area, it does remind me of using chicken wire to keep out the foxes. So chicken pit it is.
