At present, aircraft approaching the 4,000-meter runway from the south can only use the 3,250 meters after the approach lights.

Having a fully operational Runway A for the first time since the opening of the airport in 1978 is expected to increase the number of available arrival and departure slots, as aircraft will be able to more quickly move to taxiways after landing, said the current operator, Narita International Airport Corp.
