I'm also getting the following box coming up far too often

    ---------------------------
    Windows Internet Explorer
    ---------------------------
    Stop running this script?
A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly.
If it continues to run, your computer may become
    unresponsive.

Do you have a second browser (like Firefox or Chrome) installed? If you do, it would be worthwhile checking whether the performance is any different.

Over here it seems to be reasonably quick, if not exactly snappy.

    No, just using IE.
It was fine for me until the update on the weekend.

    Thanks for your reply though.

MP is slow from the HIX Dunfermline, but I suspect that's because the carrier pidgeon that supplies the bandwidth here has been at single malt....

Still very slow for me. When looking at my status bar I'm seeing lots of pages loading for ads, etc., and the whole thing feezes until everything is loaded. IE here, on a lightning fast connection.

I just upgraded Firefox to version 4 beta ... and MilePoint feels substantially faster. Benchmark numbers below:

For sure this is a question of JavaScript rather than connection speed.

Well it is somewhat encouraging that I am NOT the only one struggling with site problems.

Definitely, all the ads. I have a very fast connection speed as well.
Pop-up boxes constantly asking me to stop running the scripts.

Interesting that so many of the new ads are for upgrades

& other faster browsers as if we should all buy in

Also it seems our "staus points" (gold stars)

    have just disappeared (oh my)

We've been working on tweeking things and if you are interested in any actual speed tests, here's a few tools:
    http://www.iwebtool.com/speed_test?domain=milepoint.com flyertalk.com
(this one compares milepoint with flyertalk.
    http://www.vertain.com/?req=sst
(this one you can run a test of milepoint and then run a test of flyertalk and compare. As well, when you run milepoint.com test, it compares it against the current load speeds of several other popular websites so you get an idea of where the speed is)

Anyway, if you get a chance, these speed tests seem to indicate we're headed in the right direction for getting our system tuned up. Another baseline point of comparison to consider, looking at some public stats, milepoint is consistently running at 170-253% more daily posts than flyertalk which also will have an impact of things given what you will see in the above independent speed tests. Just some things to look at because we know this is importnat to you and as well important to us. Thanks for the input, it drives us to always do better.

Randy, with all due respect, these tests don't quite tell the full story. The pure server performance indeed looks very good. However, MilePoint is much more dependent on browser-executed JavaScript than FT -- in order to get the modern user interface.

So if you have a slow computer, or your browser has poor JavaScript performance, MilePoint can appear slow even if the MilePoint servers are running at a top-notch speed. Hence my frequent recommendation on this forum to try with a different browser in order to troubleshoot performance problems. (And, yes, Firefox 4 appears to be a huge jump in the right direction; this is particularly noticeable on my laptop, which uses a low-voltage (and thus not very powerful) processor.)

I totally think you are right and know it to be true. Well before MilePoint i noticed Safari geting slow and a growing number of websites, just normal ones and after mentioning to the tech guys they said they had all switched to Chrome. Heck, i'm a Mac guy, it didn't want to change browsers—but did and all of a sudden my life sped up. I see comments about the server system and if nothing else, want to ensure our members that we continue to work on making sure that our server side efforts are very respectable. As for the browser thing, that's always a bit more complicated and as i have noted, once we get to a Gold Release on this software platform we hope we'll see continued improvement in the areas which account for browser performance as well. And as I have noted, when someone notes that likely this needs to get better during these lower traffic periods, truth is we're running nearly double of FlyerTalk's daily posts these days. Thanks, i continue to watch your posts and appreciate and respect your knowledge in this area and that helps me. Again, thanks.

Thanks Randy for your polite reply and this wonderful new FF BB.
I did visit the link you provided and left feedback...[IMG]

Thanks also for continuing to tweek this particular problem that many of us are doing battle with.

As much as I like this new MP FF site, if I continue to have issues with the slow navigation and constant script pop-up windows while here ... I will in all honesty, probably return to FT. I would much rather not be at FT but this is really frustrating me.

I might point out that the problem became much worse for me after you did the upgrades a couple of days ago.
    Thanks.

Thanks for staying in touch with us Randy

However many of us are not knowledgeable enough

nor are we so equipped & versatile to do this testing

I would guess that most of us will either keep the faith

or at least return from time to time to check on progress

    Best of luck

    That is a browser issue.

What operating system are you using and what version of Internet Explorer are you using?

You may want to try using Chrome or Firefox and see if that makes a difference.

That is probably the best description I have seen yet on this forum.

    Thanks for your support

Very true....at work I have older IE version, and I get the popup quite often re: script running. At home, with up to date IE, no issues.

    This is a hoot.

I'm running IE8 on an XP machine through my company's VPN (at the end of a very slow DSL line.) The internet, in general, responds like crap; buy MP seems to be running fine on my end.

Especially don't use an old version of Internet Explorer. If you want to use IE, at least make sure you're running IE8.

Thanks to everyone who has offered me advice.

I had thought I was working with IE 8 but in fact it was IE 7 [IMG]
So, immediately upgraded to IE 8. Let's hope it speeds things along for me.

I'm not keen on changing my browser if I don't have to.
Up until last weekend, I had not had any issues with my browser.
