New Delta MQM promo- No mileage runs required!

Delta has announced a new MQM promotion for December-- buy bundles of MQM's to bump up or maintain Medallion status in 2012.

Good point - I'd rather fly 10k much of the time than just pay for it...THAT is so boring. I already have about 40k in rollover ...

Do any MQMs beyond the status level not rollover?

What is the point of buying MQMs. There are deals now, esp. with Alaska code-share 220 return from the east coast, with routing through MSP you are looking at close to 5,500 miles for 0.04 a mile. well worth the out and back in a day.

the Alaska codeshare with DL. If you are GM or higher you are also eligible for upgrades on AK.

The only upgrades I've ever gotten on Alaska are for short-hop routes (i.e. along the Left Coast). I've heard anecdotally that longer routes (i.e. ones going cross country) are really hard to score upgrades on.

As for buying MQM's. I'm on the fence about it. I immensely dislike that people can "buy" status versus the actual BIS miles, but if I were close to the next Medallion Tier I'd appreciate having a short window of time where I could pay to get MQM's to get myself over the threshold. Their limit is 10K miles, so I suppose this is reasonable. Does this offer include actual RDM miles (that one can later spend on a ticket or whatever) or simply MQM credit?

When I have GoGo, I can accomplish more on a plane than at home.

No RDM, just MQM, and it's not outright buying a status like on US - someone has to put in some effort to get even minimal status with this promo. And DL could get quite a bit of money for not flying a PAX (without crediting the RDM/bonus RDM that are a financial liability).

I seem to never fly on GoGo planes (since I am primarily on UA), but your point is well taken. In fact, I think I am better off without GoGo when I want to be productive, because I have a ton of stuff to read that I never seem to find the time for when I have distractions such as... uh, this thread, for example... begging for my attention. With a reasonable seat, a few beverages every now and then, and my iPad charged and loaded, I can probably keep myself occupied for a while.

I just took the deal, $295/2500 miles (I only needed 715 for Platinum), and the excess MQMs did indeed carry over. I don't care about the regular miles, I already have more than enough. What I do care about is upgrades, and if Platinum doesn't make a major difference, I'll be rethinking 2013's loyalty.

I am short 8000 miles to be diamond last year 2000 miles did not spend money to go to diamond. With the rollover I get faster to platimum which is not that much different from diamond. Delta is mart making money of non flying. Ihave been platimum a long 99,9 percent of the time I get upgraded.. so diamond does not pay if you have to pay. use the miles for rollovers
