FYI we called around with Chase reps and confirmed some of the features of the new Mileage Plus Club card...

    http://milecards.com/3855/sneak-pre...us-club-card-1-5-miles-per-dollar-smart-chip/

    Biggest changes...
    No more premier qualifying miles
Added 1.5 miles per dollar on all spend, smart EMV chip, waiver on close in booking fees

EDIT: Apparently the smart EMV chip won't be there at launch, but is in the works. So like British Airways Visa it will eventually come in and you can switch as desired.

How about the 25% bonus award miles, would you still get it with the PPlus card or not?

That already went away officially even on the legacy cards. I doubt it is coming back.

Is there any info for whether the fee for the card will stay the same or increase?

    Still $395

The EMV chip is nice as is the 1.5 miles on all spend. Still not sure about the card's worth now...

Agreed. If you are going to buy the lounge anyways it makes sense. If you are not then it is quite hard to justify IMO. Moreso if you value diversity of points.

As a non elite, I would get more benefit from the close in award fee waivers then the flex pqms.

That pretty much matches what I've heard about the card t:):). They seem to want to get out of the PQM for spend business. 1.5 miles/$ is nice, and as the PQM are pretty useless to a lot of us at least we get something useful out of their loss -- if we switch to this card.

This card is great for someone like me that wants a domestic lounge membership and has no other means currently. I also enjoy the Avis perks, and the 1.5 miles is welcome. I certainly see that it is not the card for everyone, but it works great for me.

If I switch from the PP card, the big changes for me will be as follows:
    • An extra .5mile/dollar spent in exchange for PQM that are :(f pretty much zero use to many of us.
    • MasterCard->Visa
    • Card with a chip (but likely no PIN)

What's the point of a chip with no pin?

ALL US "travel" related cards at least should be coming with pin/chip.

My USBank Corp Card doesn't have one and when I called to ask they have no clue what I was talking about.

This was after I was told at a Oslo 7-11 I couldn't use my credit card, they only accepted pin/chip.

Amex Blue has a chip, and way back when (I got the card when it launched), they offered a pin reader to hook to your computer free-of-charge for purchases online. That never seemed to go anywhere. I may even have the reader in a box somewhere still.

Some of the few US cards with chips have n:( PIN. The site linked above said, "(chip + signature technology)" which many may have missed.

I suspect the reason for chip+signature is to verify the validity of the card yet remain in compliance with the signature requirement of US cardholder agreements,

Hmm.. The problem is many places overseas (and I'm seeing these even in Canada now) are pin/chip.

    Not chip/signature. :(

I was told by my Chase rep that I may be able to keep my Presidential Plus card and follow the new benefits (1.5 x for purchases), but would not be able to keep the Flex PQMs. It's one or the other.

If I look at the $60 off for 1K and compare to a United Club membership this seems like a better deal. Am I missing anything?

Also, does this include spousal access to the club?
    • Original Member

    Mackieman Gold Member

It's a full United Club membership so you can bring in two guests plus yourself to all United Clubs.

Spousal access is an upcharge you can pay for UC so that your spouse has their own card. Is this possible with this new card?

Only as a guest. If you add a secondary card to the account for a spouse that person does N:eek:T get a club membership.

You can pay a fee ($175 if I remember correctly) for a spousal full club membership.

On a side note, I received a USPS letter on Saturday stating that I shouldn't worry, and all of my CO Presidential Plus benefits were staying the same, and it was only the name of the card that changed... I seem to remember reading about EQM's on there, too... When I get back to Houston later this week, I'll try to scan the letter and post it here.

Is this Chip + Signature, or Chip + PIN?

Boo :( No better than the free cards you can get elsewhere.

Yet another UA card that I'm not going to bother getting...

It's possible they will allow you to ass:)ciate a PIN with this card. I've got a PIN for one of my other cards.
