My experience with a Citi Chip + Signature card is that you never have an opportunity to use a PIN; it'll always print a receipt.

Is there any good card for an elite who has lifetime club access? The explorer card benefits like free bags or early boarding are mostly wasted, and I don't need a club card...

I got the same letter. New name is "united presidential plus " or something like that.

Of course the about the same time i got a big thick catalog of luxury hotels for 2012 and the prez plus card membership guide that still says Continental.

But at that price point; there's also US Club membership.

Well... there were some legacy UA cards that some people still have, but not the current offers, no. I would recommend using a Gold Amex with 3X points or a Sapphire with 2X points + annual dividend for your travel purchases. It will be more flexible, too, than earning UA miles.

I find it odd that UA has not bothered to design any cards that fit the needs of its elite FFers who clearly don't need all these priority access benefits. Take away the free bags, take away the flex EQM (since they seem pretty opposed to continuing that) but give us 5X on united.com purchases. That might be compelling.

And there's now an application link up that confirms all the features except the smart chip. Looks like one of our visitors also found out it's a heavy metal card, like the Sapphire Preferred.

You guys are going to hope a better bonus offer comes along though...

Thanks for the details. Been waiting to see what the offer was before doing my next app-o-rama. Unfortunately this is a dud for me.

Ok, found out that the Chase reps will finally know ALL the features and benefits of the CLub Card by April 4. Right now, there's still some unanswered questions that United is trying to iron out on their side before releasing the information to Chase.

I just got my renewed CO PresPlus credit card - which doesn't expire until 2015. It still says CO even 3 weeks after the demise of CO. I wonder if it remains as is through 2015?
  7. knvinvest Silver Member

I did get confirmation from the Chase rep that the Club Card will be a hard metal like the Chase Sapphire Card. He was not sure if there is a chip on the card though. The annual fee is the same at $395.

did I read my Letter from Co..I mean United/ Chase the "new" card for former CONTINENTAL PRESIDENTIAL PLUS -BUSINESS < MasterCard World, will now be called UNITED PRESIDENTIAL PLUS BUSINESS <MasterCard World>
  9. MileCards Silver Member

Same here -- I had lost mine about a week ago and my replacement still says CO. But they're supposed to send refreshed cards that say 'United' but still labeled 'Presidential Plus' later this year.

I got a Chase Sapphire and Amex Gold Rewards, and have started using them.

I think my Chase CO Onepass Plus card converted in the Mileage Plus Explorer, so I have canceled that already.

I believe my UA legacy card gives 2x on UA purchases, so I haven't canceled it yet in case the legacy is worth something, but it seems to me that 2.14x on Chase UR or 3x on Amex MR is more valuable, so I haven't been using the UA legacy.

So with a chip and signature rather than chip and pin, would we be able to use it in machines in Europe?
    • Original Member

    Scottrick Gold Member

No. It is really not a solution to the problem.

I don't understand how the credit card industry thinks it is an acceptable situation that U.S. (or non-Euro) travelers are locked out of using their cards in automated machines in Europe. It really sucks when you are trying to buy a simple train ticket and there's a long queue for the manned counters.

Interestingly enough, my Visa didn't work in the machine yesterday in Zurich but my AmEx did.

I agree that it is annoying none of the US issuers have figured out a way to make this work. Doesn't really seem to be so hard.

Hi Everyone, obviously I'm a lilttle late to the game here, but, as you can see, today we’ll officially be introducing the new United MileagePlus Club Card. I know there’s been speculation on this, and I’m sure there will be follow-up questions. To start, here are some key highlights of the United MileagePlus Club Card:
    • As the card name suggests, a full United Club membership is included. If you already have a United Club membership, once approved for the card, you’ll be refunded for any unused portion of your membership as long as the refund is $15 or more (the refund is applicable to annual and three year memberships)

    • There are some key benefits, too. Just like our Presidential Plus Card, the new Club Card is designed to enhance your total travel experience. Here’s a list of the benefits (details for each can be found here):

    • Earn 50% more miles on ALL purchases. This is a new benefit.Cardmembers will earn at least 50% more miles on all purchases with the new Club Card. Specifically, for each $1 spent, Cardmembers will earn 1.5 miles, and when purchasing United tickets, the miles jump to 2 miles for every $1 spent on tickets
    • Free first and second standard checked bags for the Cardmember and one companion
    • Premier Access travel services, including priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling
    • Book award tickets close to the departure date without a fee. We’ll waive the fee for booking award tickets 21 days or less prior to departure. This benefit is reserved only for Cardmembers and certain Premier levels
    • Get complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members). Cardmembers who are also Premier members will be eligible to receive their complimentary upgrade benefits (where available) even when traveling on an award ticket in economy class
    • No foreign transaction fees
    • Cardmembers will have access to last-seat award availability (applicable to general members)
    • As a Cardmember, miles don’t expire
    • Invitation to special Avis benefits and Hyatt Platinum Elite status
    • Inside Access from Chase. As a Cardmember, you will be delighted with opportunities to attend private, curated, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Visit InsideAccess.comto learn about upcoming events
    • Access to the Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collectionspecial rates and benefits
    • Premier travel and purchase protection, including primary auto rental collision damage coverage
    • 24/7 Concierge Services
For those of you who already have a credit card with Chase, here’s some more information:
    • Already have a Mileage Plus Club Visa Card? You’ll find that the key differences are that the new Club Card has the added benefits of free checked bags, Premier Access, 50% mileage bonus on all purchases, award tickets close to departure date without a fee and complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members where available). The new Club Card does not award Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases. More specific information about your current card and the new Club Card will arrive in the mail in late April

    • Already have the Presidential Plus Card? The key difference is that the Presidential Plus Card awards Flexible Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases whereas the new Club Card awards a 50% mileage bonus on all purchases. Both cards earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets. If you’re interested in changing over to the new Club Card, simply call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options. While the Presidential Plus Card and its benefits will continue, we are not taking any additional applications for new Presidential Plus accounts

    • Already have another United card from Chase? If you currently have another United card from Chase and want to switch, call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options
For a full list of details, and to apply for the new Club Card, please visit MileagePlusClub.com.

As always, please let us know your questions.

Thank you for the details, Shannon.

Can you confirm whether or not the new Club card has chip + PIN technology in it?

Also, do you know if Chase will need to do a hard credit pull for someone wanting to switch from a Presidential Plus card?

For the close in award fee waiver, does that apply to all those traveling with you in the pnr, or just to you?

Question: I have the Chase CO PP card and pay only $100 per year since I have a Lifetime United Club membership. If I convert to the new United Club card - does the fee remain at $100 per year for Lifetime United Club members?

The 1.5 miles for all purchases is better for me, then Flex EQM, since I also have Lifetime Premier 1K status.

OK, good, so get to choose between keeping my 1,000 PQM's for every $5,000 in spend, or switching to the new card and receiving 1.5 RDM's on all general spending... Easy choice this year - I need the Elite miles!

In my case, they did not (when I moved from the regular CO card to the PresPlus one). I would expect this to be the same situation.

    Hi Shannon,
I currently hold the CO Presidential Plus card and called Chase to inquire about switching over to the new MileagePlus Club card (as you mentioned above) and they said we're not able to switch until April 4. Can you clarify? Thanks.
