Just made another loan - got to keep jbcarioca on his (simpático) heels :D
    • Our first $5,000 loan amount goal is completed in LESS than a month!
    • We've completed 28% of our next goal of $20,000
    • We have 26 team members
    • We have made 124 loans, only 76 to go until our first goal of 200 loans made
    • A total of $5,550 in loans
    • We are ranked #9 in new members this month
    • We are ranked #8 in total amount loaned this month, let's keep this going!
Also, post suggestions for new goals, either here or on the Kiva team message board:

    Randy,
I vote for option 1. This way our kiva/MP community grows. I for one would appreciate additional kiva credit, but i think $25 would be well spent on the first time loaners.

Jbcarioca, I applaud your generosity. I will match your contributions as much as I can. (I don't think my disposable income is as great as yours!)

Wonderful! You can and should be proud of your contribution no matter what the amount is. Every loan you make helps a lot! [IMG]

I'm starting by thanking Randy for running this past us - thank you.

I like idea 1, giving to new loaners. I was tempted to say idea 3, the mixture however I feel idea 1 will have the greatest benefit to the Kiva borrowers. Those of us who loan will keep on loaning. Those who have never loaned will hopefully keep on loaning after receiving their first one as a gift. I have given 3 friends gift vouchers and they have kept on loaning. That $75 I spent on gift vouchers has had a greater effect with my friends putting in more funds that had I simply loaned that money in my name. I hope I make sense.

    Karen

Ps The new-look Kiva is great!

Our likes are very well devoted in this thread. It seems I will be making some nice contributions at the end of the day. If alpinesoccer is OK with it, I will not match his, so as to encourage more people. alpinesoccer not only has a great handle but a great heart.

Please, everyone who sees this, start joining and making contributions. [IMG]

Jbcarioca, I was spurred on by your contributions. You are doing a wonderful thing. I find myself with some disposable income this month and I am only aiming to match you!! If you keep matching me and I keep matching you I will drain my bank account for sure.[IMG] Please keep me informed of your matching contributions and I will do the same for mine!

I have just prodded people on the Private Forum, which alpinesoccer should be able to enter soon. We all should try hard to beat the atheists this month. That is hard to do because they seem to perpetually be on top, but we have faith in our cause (regardless of our positions on other issues), plus we like each other.

I have just signed up with $25, I can not manage much at this stage as most of my charitable donations are already tied up to a charity in Vietnam.
Any tips on lending for a newbie?

I did only 25 as it was all i can spare at this time. But its good to participate. Find a loan, maybe one of the MP loan targets already chosen that is still raising funds and away you go.

One of the things that's wonderful about Kiva is that it only takes $25 to make a loan. Every little bit helps. And you'll get paid back in a few months (or years, depending on the repayment term)

    Hey Chimpy,

I noticed that you lent to a fellow from Azerbaijan who has bananas in his hand. Might those bananas have influenced your decision on who to lend to? [IMG]

    Newbie question time.

When the repayments come in each month to the acct, does that get split up to everyone who filled the loan or do you get all your money back in the month that corresponds to the percentage you loaned at?

Yeah, I like that thumbs up banana. Maybe MP will adopt that for a smilie instead of a regular thumbs up.

I signed up to the team, but didn't make a loan yet. It's a first step [IMG]

Most recipients pay back monthly (some less often - you may want to pay attention to the repayment term for each loan you make). If a recipient pays back 10% of their total loan, then you will receive 10% of whatever you lent.

On each recipient's page, there is an expected repayment schedule at the bottom of the page.

Also, you can log onto your own account by clicking on to "My Portfolio".
Under my portfolio (in green), you can click on "estimated repayments".
This will bring you to a page called "scheduled repayment estimates".
From there, you can click onto any month and see how much you can expect to receive from each of your loan recipients in each particular month.

Thanks, Chimpy, you'll be matched by me tomorrow AM my time. If you've more to put in this month please remember that will be matched too. Finally, real, genuine likes to you, as well as the fun kind.

As you go on you'll find there are several people prepared to help you on the lending side beginning with S&M. We will develop this thread too with much more information.

if anybody gets serious enough to want detailed lending credit and risk analysis I'll be happy to help with that. I started and ran banks in Yemen, Iran, Panama and other places and have, I shudder to admit, 40 years of international banking experience, including micro-lending and micro-services

    Welcome, a thousand welcomes.
