I wish we would have blown the fuse on OWMD, gave me a freaking headache!

No way! We clearly needed that system to function. Look how much use we had of it?

If it was the morning after, I'm telling you now that was not the call buttons. :p

But after 'boobie boy' liberated the cart of the liquor, we had no need for it. Here's hoping the FA's on SMD4 are as accommodating as Kazumi and co ;)

    Question re: post-OWMD offer

Re-reading the T&Cs for the promo, but now I'm confusing myself and wanted to get the opinion of others. Assume that in the year-ago three month qualifying period one flew 0 base miles. In this case, any revenue miles flown on AA metal from 01MAR2012 to 31MAY2012 will earn "triple base miles."

Here's my question: Would one receive triple base miles as a bonus in *addition* to the ACTUAL base miles flown? So, for example, if one flies 1000 base miles, will one ultimately receive 4000 RDMs (original 1000 plus 3000 bonus), or will one receive 3000 RDMs (which is "triple" the 1000 base)?

    Thoughts?

i read it to be and hope it to be the former and not the latter!

Isn't T&C language the same for all 'double' or 'triple' promotions? That is, DEQ11 doubles base miles, not adds double miles in addition to base miles.

So for post-OWMD challenge, you will get 4x RDM: triple base as part of the promo, and another 1x base as an EXP bonus.

    My 6 cents...

Thanks. This was my initial interpretation as well. I just was confusing myself the more and more I looked at the T&Cs.

Speaking of DEQ11, that's also part of what got me confused, since when combined with the post-OWMD offer example above (and again to follow your example, assume, one is also EXP), then one gets 2x RDM plus 3x RDM plus 1x RDM, so if

    1000 original base
1000 (net addition for 2x base)
2000 (net addition for 3x base)
1000 (net addition for EXP bonus)

    Total = 5000 (5x base)

Crazy, isn't it, that one ORD-SFO r/t would bring 18,460 RDM - almost enough for a free domestic award ticket. Now, add to that a possible VDB with ORC...and we might get paid by AA to fly on their planes.

    I don't think so.

The DEQ11 gives you double DEQM - so 1000 miles results in 2000 EQM for the flight.
The DEQ11 earns no bonus miles.

For the Promo, an EXP gets:
    1000 Base miles - normal
    1000 Bonus for EXP
    2000 Bonus miles for Promo.

So combining the DEQ11 and OWMD Post Offer the net would be:

    2000 EQM and 4000 RDM.

    My take.

FYI, DEQ11 provides 2x EQMs AND 2x RDMs. In my example, I just didn't mention the EQM part because, frankly, they no longer matter to me for the current program year :p

It was DEQAA that "only" provided 2x EQMs without a corresponding RDM bump.
  8. cova Gold Member

Wow - that was overkill on AA's part. I can see giving DEQM for people to earn elite status faster - but DRDM is overkill.

FWIW, AA didn't start this war, VX (Virgin America) did. VX has been taking on AA at ORD and DFW, so AA had to match fares and bonuses. UA, which is not in as dire a financial situation as AA, chose to match 2x EQMs (and I believe not 2x RDMs), and then only for W fares and above.

Those of us in CA/IL/TX who leveraged 3x EQMs / 3x RDMs through 31Jan at sub-$200 r/t have VX to thank. It's been fantastic having 3 good options in AA, UA, and VX out of SFO.
  9. Sagy Gold Member

Correct, so an ORD-SFO/LAX/SNA-ORD RT before the end of May will earn 5X RDM and 2X EQM if you are an IL/TX/CA resident and qualify for the 3X post MegaDO challenge.

5x *ONLY* if one is also EXP.

    Edit: EXP or Plat

Correct, thank for the correction. To cover all possibilities: 4.25x for golds and 4x for non status.

Kizumi was my FA last night! I was flying LGA-DFW. She was amazing and says hi to everyone from the Megado. All the other FAs were all curious about what the MD had been. It was quite awesome to have had her.
