Is this towards me?? $874.10 - 10% (coupon from Canucklehead) - 10% using GC purchased by Sagy for a total of 708.02. Applied for another AA Visa for my wife and got a $100 statement credit plus 40,000 miles. Will use capital one points for the difference for $0 out of pocket.
Purists will fail you for leaving the airport for days but I'd say it's an MR as long as you say it is Safe travels!
Now if you did two JFK-PVG RTs in a week I would call those MRs. My take here is that this is a bargain vacation, also gettting the 3X+ miles. But going for a week is more sensible. Enjoy!
How about calling it a sensible MR then? Doing 2 of these trips might jeopardize my marriage, so until I can get DrNYCAdventurer to join this will have to suffice.
I was thinking two RTs JFK-PVG - in less than 7 days - - most of the week in the air. I guess I call this a mileage run. My definition of a Mileage Run is when you make a trip (which you might not otherwise do) because the cpm is less than 2 cents per mile. In this case you are doing much better than 2 cents miles - closer to zero. The fact that you stay a week - well that is self justification. Now - I know people who have done 3 RTs from USA to Australia in one week - that is 6 TPAC in one week. Not sure if you could even do 3 RT's from JFK-PVG in one week.
3 RTs USA to Australia in one week would be brutal, unless you are in J or F. Even then it would be tough. Eg 1st trip, depart LAX Sunday 10pm, arriving SYD Tues 7am. Then depart SYD 7 hours later, Tues 2pm, arrive LAX Tues 9am. 2nd trip Depart LAX tues 10pm, arrive SYD Thurs 7am. Depart SYD Thurs 2pm, arrive LAX Thurs 9am . 3rd trip. Depart LAX Thurs 10pm, arrive SYD Sat 7pm. Depart SYD Sat 2pm, arrive LAX Sat 9am. If you attempted to do this in Coach, you would spend a week in hospital to recover from a) DVT, and b) BIG hangover. Unless you are like Golden Toque and do this to buy your wife a bottle of wine that can only be found in Australia ( and how sweet is that boy??) there are other ways to get miles that will let you live to enjoy it more. Having said the above, now I guess we'll see the annual "Week over the Pacific MegaDo" thread starting up any day now. May I suggest that one overnight stay is put in, just so that the group can have a gathering all together. This is because there is to be no congregating in any part of the plane, especially near the toilets.
I am interested.....but only if I can get confirmed upgrades. I have been checking FT Coupon Connection and there have not been any trades I could complete.... I can do LAX-ORD-PVG for 17,604 EQM, but am trigger shy... It is actually 3,470 more miles cuz of DEQM LAX-ORD, total of 21,074. But the flights are over $1k o/w in cheapo class...I will keep looking and reading this board.
Paging wijomas... I'm pretty sure he's doing 4 almost-back-to-back ORD-PEK runs in April as part of his 90k+ miles of insanity.
I too am interested. I'm looking to go LAX-ORD-PVG on April 22; return April 26 to LAX. Looks like 24 hrs in PVG. I'd like to leave the airport. Can anyone reassure that I'm reading the visa info right? I do NOT need a visa for a less than 48 hour stay? I'm concerned about being allow boarding, even with a return ticket. Thanks. T
Thank you!! I know it will be a blast, have a friend joining. If anyone is going to be in PVG end of April please let me know for a meetup.
Happy March! We hope those of you who are participating in the post-OWMD offer are off to a good start! In the spirit of healthy competition (and thanks to the clever suggestion by jetsetr), we’ve decided to create a public leaderboard that will be updated twice per month (one update mid-month, and another at month’s end). We will feature the participants with the top five highest number of base miles flown and top five highest number of segments. We look forward to seeing how it all plays out! As a reminder, there are a few ways to participate in this promotion. There’s the group challenge (most miles / most segments per month, and most miles / most segments at the end of the promo period) and the individual challenge (increase your travel on AA by 50% or 100% or more versus prior year). Please note that the promotion terms and conditions have been clarified and now include how a winner will be determined if individuals finish the month in a tie for the segment category. Please see the revised terms here: http://bit.ly/GAXfxw Finally - here’s the first leaderboard! And, for those who are close - there’s still time to overtake the #1 spot! Need a reminder for what’s at stake? See this post by cova. Most base miles flown - March 1 - March 15th 1. 17,802 miles - globalexplorer 2. 9,901 miles – [name withheld for security purposes]* 3. 7,652 miles - legalalien 4. 7,425 miles - jsm 5. 6,414 miles – Mitzi15 Most eligible segments flown - March 1 - March 15th 1. 6 segments - legalalien 2. 6 segments - TonySCV 3. 6 segments - wijomas 4. 5 segments - globalexplorer 5. 5 segments - [name withheld for security purposes]* *Please note that in order to protect our member’s data, whenever a Milepoint handle matches a person’s real name, we will not list their handle in the leaderboard.
Thanks, AmericanAirlines! Don't worry, if I'm not the top of that leader board by the end of April I'll be flying back over the big Pacific ditch in May to do it twice as well And for the record - you can do 3 RT's JFK-SFO-ORD-PEK-ORD-SFO-JFK in 6 days, and the timings are even better for PVG. Entirely possible. I'm in for a Week over the Pacific MegaDO, hell I'm basically on WOTP MegaDO #93 already.
I checked fares for that route yesterday and the fare came out higher than what I wanted to pay (of course). I also have my flight for FTU 4/26 - 4/30.... The fares in May for that route were even higher.
I'm guessing my I am guessing my single planned flight JFK-LAX-PVG won't even put me on the leaderboard, but at least I will get my 3x base miles from the promotion!
Yes, people entering the PRC need a visa. Goto gochina.about.com and under 'Planning your Trip' / 'Travel documents needed' it tells you how to get one. If you are just at the airport (MR), it is not clear, but I would get one just to be sure.
Humm.. I guess I'm out then. The turn is 36hrs. for me. I read somewhere that if you stay less than 48 hrs. you don't need one. Oh well.
The leaderboard is fun Sadly I won't wind up anywhere close to the top, I'm heading to PHX today, MIA next week, a couple NYC trips next month and have a weekend booked in Iguassu Falls (confirmed upgrades both directions). Which is great, love all the bonus miles, and the IGU trip is just a bit of extra fun that I might not have done or at least might not have done in May without the bonus.
finally booked enough to get my triple miles (actually quadruple counting my exec platinum status) I even get to spend a day and a half in Bogota, probably the last destination I ever planned to go to, but at $940 round trip from LAX to BOG in business I couldn't resist.
available 3/16 to 12/15 according to AA. I booked out of LAX on 5/17 and back on 5/20. Three of the four legs are 763's with lie flat sleeper seats. Hilton in Bogota has AAA rates at $94.00 per night and I was told that a suite upgrade was probable.
