I really like the alert feature and it's ability to tell you when someone has quoted or replied to a post. It makes it easier and more productive to have an ongoing dialogue. Sometimes, you know someone who has something to add to a dialogue and it would be cool to "alert" them to that thread. I currently do this via conversations or instant messaging but it would be really cool if you could page someone to a thread or a post more directly and have it pop up in their alerts.
Great idea. I've seen threads that someone should know about, but was too lazy to start a conversation or e-mail them to notify them.
But this could also be annoying for some people who would probably always get paged (if it was easy enough to do.)
It would probably go through the alert system, and we have granular control over alerts. So, someone who gets paged too much could just switch it off in their preferences.
It would be a good idea. What I have tried to do is send individuals a link to a post, but for the life of me I find it very hard to find the post link. I find I have to reply to it and then get the link from the up arrow to the previous post. What am I missing. This would help me "page" or alert others much easier.
See the little number to the left of the like and reply buttons? It's light gray and blends in but it has a link the post #. Took me a while to find that one too
DOH! I am an idiot! Of course! Thanks -- and I remember a post earlier in another thread reminding us that hovering in all sorts of places (you would not think of) could yield interesting results. Mea Culpa and thank-you!
No worries! We're all learning here. In that spirit, I started consolidating shortcuts (like this one) - please add any you've found !
