As long as you can make a stop underway with the Beemer it no problem. My stop was at the Airbase today. Sadly I didn't get a flight with Dragon Rapide as I had ordered since both the weather didn't permit a VFR flight today and one of the Gipsy Six was a bit sick (cracked manifoil). Instead I got the full tour inside all available aircraft on site, included sitting in cockpit of the Nimrod, the Shackleton, one of DC-6s (in the other one I had lunch - the DC-6 Diner G-SIXC) and a rear visitor like the N500LN - Howard Aero model 500 - a pressurized Lockheed Ventura. After that it was only a short, less than two hour, hop to Chester (included a short stop at the M6 Toll service station to get rid of some old Espresso and fill up with new at Costa).

I feel on very thin ice here, but I'll press on anyway. IIRC the Howard 500 looked like the war surplus Lockheeds that Howard was converting for civil use it really was an new airplane, new fuselage, anyway, while still using lots of lockheed components. A few 500's were converted, but I think yours was sn113, a 100% 500, not a conversion.

i have been interested in these airplanes mostly because it was absolutely the last gasp of long-range piston executive aircraft.

    Am I in error, Merlin?

My initial thought was something in New England, probably Rhodes Island, but the architecture of the building points me more north. Then I am thinking somewhere near the 1,000 islands, so Kingston, ON?

The 500 had the Howard serial number 49.

Initial thoughts are sometimes the best. Not Kingston.

Clue - when built, this was thought to be the largest poured-concrete building of its day.

The location in question has now been pending over 24 hours, so I think I need to drop another hint or two, to get this thread off life support.

    1. Of the many thousands of inhabitants that occupied this building in its 60-something years of Service, I daresay very, very few were happy to be there.

    2. Teddy's prize.

Well, Based on the Clues. The city could be Ossinging, NY. But cannot find a pic that matches.

It's funny - my initial thought was Alcatraz, until I realized that boats wouldn't be moored near it.

    Correct!

(BTW "Teddy's Prize" referred to the Nobel Prize Theodore Roosevelt won for ending the Russo-Japanese War with the Treaty of Portsmouth.)

I took this picture while on a "roots" visit to New Hampshire, where my forebears first arrived in the 1630s. Fortunately, none of them appear to have been guests at this grand hotel.

    You're up!

    Athens - No
    Rome - No
    Lisboa - No

There are a total of five Doric Temple ruins and some have said the area has the largest and greatest collection of ancient Greek ruins. However, they are definitely not in Greece.

I believe the same statue is in Washington DC, where I thought others would guess. Yes, the Wyoming capitol is very nice.

    Okay, change of pace...
