I'm planning a day trip with the cheap JetBlue fares, and I want to rent a cheap car for the day. My father-in-law has 5 free days with Emerald Club, and he'll likely never use them on his own. Is it possible for him to reserve the car for me with this points, and I pick it up and rent it? I'm thinking a transfer of points would take too long, and I need the points in a little over a week. Ideas?
Does your FiL have National rental credits or 123 Free promo codes? Not 100% positive but iirc, credits can't be transferred. OTOH, 123 Free codes (max 3 per rental) can be used by you ...just enter the code in your ressie.
Your best bet may be to call the actual rental station and explain this to them. I don't see why this would be an issue, but better to check ahead vs. a $90 a day car rental bill.
He has 5 days in rental credits, not 123 promo codes. I'll give the rental station a call later today. Thanks for the tips!
what did you find out? Like bk3day, I believe only 123 codes can be provided for someone else to use, free days from so many rentals can not be used by someone else.
My FIL called National, and they said they couldn't transfer points OR have him do a rental in my name. Said I'd need to use the same credit card the rental is booked with, which is weird, because when I rent with Budget I NEVER use the card I booked with, and they never have a problem. I ended up renting a red, convertible Camaro SS. It was flippin' awesome. I wrote a piece about the trip, and it includes a picture of the car: http://caseyfriday.com/2011/11/california-dreamin/
