[Rumor] UA Offers $200 Vouchers For HKG Mistake.

"Airline pricing mistakes are quite common. Last July, United mistakenly offered $40 flights to Hong Kong. It dealt with the problem by issuing $200 gift certificates to some customers."

$40? Are 4 UA miles really worth that much? Aren't the taxes higher than that anyway as well?

The taxes were around 40 bucks.

I called MileagePlus to find out how they determined who did or did not get the $200 e-cert. I was on hold a looooong time, but it ended with her telling me to write to customer service. Writing to customer service is the very thing that made me feel justified in taking advantage of the 4 mile offer in thew first place. They have yet to answer one of the 5 legitimate complaints I have had this year. I don't usually write ONE complaint email per year, but UA really caused me some serious inconvenience and cost me a lot of money this year. Ignoring a customer is one of the most offensive things that a business can do to any customer, IMHO.

"Write to Customer Service..." Yeah... I'll get right on that.

This just appears to be a rumor that is getting passed around, so far. But a voucher is not unexpected.

After my DOT complaint, all I got was a form letter from Customer care explaining why they didn't have to honor it.

All i got from UA was they're canceling. Then 2 emails from DoT.

I demand some compensation from FT for having to read the "4-mile" thread in the UA forum!

Yeah I never got any voucher.

You should demand therapy for reading FT, especially the UA forum.

No amount of compensation can make up for all that mental anguish!!

No kidding, I just looked at that thread and wow, it's definitely gone off the rails. OTOH if you want to learn about small claims court procedures, constitutional law, contract law, etc it's a great read!

But when they finally respond, it's like Christmas! Surprise refunds you never expected...

I wouldn't recommend that thread for educational purposes. Amusement? Of course.

What? But there are all of those experts on there!! Actually it was amusing for awhile and then just got to be too much!

I'll take my "$200" in miles. Let's see, at 2 cpm, UA owes me 10,000 miles, right?

Or 2500 trips to hongkong.

It all depends on what you want to be educated on...

What I would like to be educated on is why UA is selectively playing favorites by honoring some of these tickets and denying the rest. That really chaffed me a bit.
