Thanks to everyone for this thread - I'll be going to HK as part of a near vacation and about the only thing that's concerning is the no "no smoking" room. That said, the benefits seem to outweigh the negatives.

Plats have access to a lounge for cocktails in the evening though it's a rather drab interior space. Towers is considered a separate hotel, thus no upgrades from the regular property to the towers unless you use points (or pay).

I agree Simon. This was a really nice and service oriented/informative email. FWIW, I did reply to her confirming that I am willing to ante up the points if they deliver a Towers Room ;) I think at 2500 a night, well worth it.

Interesting that they didn't specify whether the free breakfast for Platinums was cold buffet only, which is what was the deal the times I was there several years ago with a small up-pay for the hot items, or included the full offerings. I wonder if it's now both cold and hot.

Of course, as a Plat, you'd have free internet anyway, even if you didn't go Tower.

I recall some announcement on FT saying that Platinums got full hot buffet breakfast sometime from last year. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I believe Starwood Lurker II posted a letter from the hotel directly. In any event- the Towers level is far preferrable for breakfast as it is very quiet and relaxed with a stunning view. If someone chooses to stay at the Sheraton- it is really Towers or change hotels (IMHO).

Well, that's happy news about full buffet access. I've stayed at the hotel plenty of times without Towers access, and I find it perfectly fine. Location, views from the harbor rooms and I find it interesting to watch the others who stay at the hotel during breakfast. Certainly more hectic than the Towers lounge, but not a hotel-changer, IMHO. YMMV.

Stayed this month and plat gets full breakfast buffet. I was on award stay in the regular non-tower floor. I was a little surprise cause it was just cold buffet last dec. This makes Sheraton slightly more desirable for me now. Better locale, free soda during day, wine in the evening and free bf makes this hotel more attractive than W. W is good for the airport express and hip factor. But it's getting too busy and I'm tired of walking thru functions everyday to get to the lobby.

Great point about the harbour view and the people watching. What I meant by Hotel-changer is that non-towers level at the prices of the Sheraton- there are many many options in Hong Kong which compete.

Interesting that the manager's email doesn't mention cocktails for Plats not staying in the Towers but rather mentions soft drinks all day. Has the evening cocktail period in the executive lounge been discontinued?

I emailed ahead, and am presently (tonight and tomorrow) staying in a lovely Towers harbor view room on 2500 pts per night + a SPG50 certificate. I just came back from the lounge where I enjoyed a lovely bordeaux. Cheers.

Just had a one night stay here, on a "Tower upgrade offer" rate at 2400HKD, which I found quite reasonable.

As a plat, we were upgraded to a city/garden view suite (though the only thing to see from the windows were the hotel rooms in the adjacent bulding). Unlike others here, we were not offered a harbour view room as an alternative. (Decided not to ask for it).

Lounge was not crowded when we were there (530 pm til 630pm) and the selection of food was quite nice (though, whats up with the tired-looking popcorn among all the houers deuvres?). The waiter told us that the sparkling wine we had was champagne, but after checking the bottle, it was an other type of french sparkling.

The afternoon tea was nothing but a couple of small and rather dry scones - somewhat disappointing foodwise.
The suite was nothing special (your average Sheraton), but we enjoyed having the extra space.

VERY good breakfast in the Oyester bar - and the head waiter was eager to please us (he went out of his way to find a special type of cereal I wanted).

Being more convinient than the more hip W when it comes to transportation and sightseeing, the towers are an okay alternative to the W hotel - especially if you are somewhat tired of the constant buzz/gatherings/happenings at the latter.

There was actually a non-smoking sign in the tower suite where we stayed (room #1789).
    • Original Member

I think that might have been the sign saying no pipe smoking which is in the smoking rooms or they have finally got some non smoking tower suites!

Pretty sure it was a non-smoking sign...

I have a confirmation from the hotel for a Towers HV nonsmoking room for next month- was not available on the website but an email to the hotel provided the confirmation. will report back post-stay.

I stayed in the Tower Suite recently. Beware - the wifi is very very slow, to the point of being unacceptable.

I had one room like this- however the tradeoff was a stunning view of Hong Kong. There is cabled internet in the room so just connect the old fashioned way through RJ45 cat5 cable.

True, but I was using my MacBook Air and forgot to bring the adapter for the cabled internet. I wish the management would look into this, because in 2011 this should not be a problem anymore.

We've booked four nights in a Harbour View room using a BRG. As a plat, is there a chance of being upgraded despite the BRG? I'm just thinking that they're going to see that and be annoyed and thus give me the lowest floor HV room. We really want the view and the higher the floor the better.
