USA Today: Sheraton New York's update fixes No. 1 guest complaint A $160 million renovation to improve the property...
Hmm.. rwoman- there were so many things to fix at the Sheraton Manhattan- even a $160 million sounds minimal Anyway, good on them for giving it a go (if it works- we will see with the first Trip Report).
I agree AC is a big deal in NY in the summer months- also agree was 160 mm enough? It seems similar to solving a countries federal deficit (the more money thrown at it, the larger it grows)
The article is about the Sheraton NY Hotel & Towers. The Sheraton name was taken away from the Manhattan and it's now called the Manhattan Hotel.
Let's see.. What else is on the list of things that urgently needs updating... Paper thin walls between rooms and street noise comes to mind. Did they fix that? Doubt it, because I saw Henry H post on Facebook last week about not getting any sleep due to noise. I've only stayed there once and as a plat I got the smallest hotel rom I've ever gotten (yes, even smaller than the W on Lex). My neighbor came back with a pro at 3am, kept on going for 15 minutes and when I thought it was over, he got on his cell for an hour. It's so poorly insulated that I thought the guy was in my room. No thanks...
These hotels will never offer Free wifi to everyone. It's pretty much an industry standard for these big ones (Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott) to sell wifi to non-elites.
Certainly not a very good hotel, even by NYC standards, but sometimes it is serviceable when you want an SPG stay credit and everything else is pricing super-high. The renovation has improved the property dramatically. The new furniture and colors are a lot nicer. The lounge is meh, but at least it has a lounge. The location can be pretty convenient - right on top of the B/D/E stop at 7th Ave/53rd St, and reasonably close to the N/Q/R at 57th St, and the 1 at 50th St. And within walking distance to most of midtown. So, it's sometimes an option and it sucks a lot less than it used to
