Singapore Airlines extends advance seat selection to all economy passengers

Singapore Airlines now enables advance selection of economy class seats through all booking channels, a service that was previously only available to Suites, first and business class passengers or those booking their flights through the website.

Now, travel agents, SIA reservations and ticketing offices as well as the website allow passengers to book flights and choose specific economy class seats, thus offering the same convenience in travel booking and planning to all SIA passengers regardless of class of travel.

And yet they haven't extended it to MI...

IIRC, MI pax who book on the website can't even do an advance seat selection until online check in opens

That's the trick.. But perhaps SQ feels that MI pax are mostly kettles who doesn't need seat selections..

even the J pax are not deemed worthy enough to enter the hallowed SKL

Even though those J pax eventually transfer to an F pax on SQ..

Or transfer from F on SQ.......to be arriving in Singapore after a great flight on F only to find out that you cannot enter the SKL because SQ doesn't serve the destination you are connecting to so you're stuck with MI...

Very true..... Its sad that SQ treats MI as a second class carrier...

A friend who had worked for MI told me that MI and SQ working relationship is frosty at best and they do not get along at all. They are in a marriage of convenience because MI needs to feed on SQ's pax otherwise they will be dead. Therefore MI needs SQ and SQ knows it, so it can afford to continue treating its little "sister" they way the do...sad really...

That's the Singaporean way of thinking I suppose...

I've been trying to figure out the whole point behind subsidiaries in airlines: brand separation and cost savings? MI's service generally is poorer compared to SQ, isn't it?

MI might have less inflight amenities compared to SQ but service-wise, I think they have one of the best cabin crew in the air, I would say much better than the newer batch of SQ FSS.

MI was set up to offer SQ a cheaper operating model to thinner routes that could not justify the deployment of SQ's 777. It is more like the "SQ Regional" or "SQ Express", if you will.
