Good point. Reminds me of the recent dining promos from other airlines and hotel programs. I wonder if they're all going to follow suit.

Depends if you're going to eat at a participating restaurant anyway. If so then why not get some miles anyway?
I have also had success just buying a gift card for future use without actually dining that day. Not sure if they is the intended function of the program, but it has worked for me to help meet a certain number of dines within a promo period.
